Best way to locate long lost friend

I am looking to find an old buddy that I have not heard from in 14 years. He has a very common name and the last address I had from him was in Spokane WA. The address is no longer valid. I have tried all of the free internet searches and come up with nothing. I am willing to pay a reasonable fee to a professional, but I don’t know who to hire. There are tons of companies that claim to be able to find people but I don’t want to a hire scam artist that will just take my money and never deliver.

Do any of you in the brain trust have personal knowledge of a good company to hire, or the web site that do it and rip me off?

If you know someone that finds leases(oilfield) they have an internet service that can find almost anyone or a PI, anyone that might have to use this monthly service to find people

I've found everyone I've ever tried to find just using Google... It may take awhile, but you'll find them!

He has a very common name and I don't know if he moved out of Washington state or not.

I'd suggest looking for mutual friends on facebook, search their friends for the person you are looking for

Search his name on Facebook, then narrow it down by school.

Or, just post what info you have here. The Pelican brain trust is pretty darned resourceful.

If they've been in the biz more than 5 years, they could probably do what you want in less than a day, not leaving their office...

Go to PI #1, and ask them to find PI #2.

If successful, PI #1 is better than PI #2, and vice versa.

Repeat with all iterations of PIs (1 through N), keeping track of score. for clarity, make sure that you have #1 try to find #2 AND have #2 try to find #1.

The would be rather expensive.

I just want a Magnum PI type to do it for 40 bucks in 1/2 a hour.

Bingo!

Knowing where they went to school narrows it down a whole lot...
