Cool mechanical themed Object d'Art... meet Cogzilla

My wife adopted him from an airport gift shop. She came up with the Cogzilla name. I'd love to know how long it took to make this. Our new pet:

I believe that is an older style screen door spring.

Not sure what the spring came off of. Must be high performance... appears to be progressive.
