Must......resist.......:D I have very fond memories of my XJR, and the six cylinder cars have a great reputation. If I were looking for a daily driver this would be a no-brainer. Ever see what $4k buys for most cars?

The new mini is made by BMW. The old one is in the same league as the VW bug, 2CV or Fiat 500. Only impressive "value" if compared with the original purchase price.

I used to have a 67 MGB. Thing wasn't worth much, considering it was a classic car in very good shape. And yes, it sucked.

The guys on the 'tex tend to get out of hand. I got tired of the BS on the Corrado forum... It was actually a deciding factor in selling the car. For the money I was spending I wanted a car that I could actually find some support for.

One thing I wanted to add:

All these cars (Jags, 7 series, S class, A8 etc.) are status symbols. Once they are past 10 years, old absolutely nobody wants them because they are not status symbols any more.

Enthusiasts keep up the price on sports cars. These cars are status symbols too, but they also keep the performance and technical lure even at an older age.

Compare any big boat luxury cruiser like a Lincoln Continental or Cadillac DeVille from 1970 with any american 2 door coupe of the same era and you have the same issue. The Camaro, Mustang, Chevelle and even ElCamino of the same vintage will fetch 2x the price and were half as much to buy when they were new. ;)

You can't go wrong with a Vette motor in a Jag. The Chev 350 has found its way into many ailing Jags down here.

My brother owned a "350 XJ6 Jag" for almost 10 years. Damn they drive nice.
He only sold it because of fuel prices... But he never had a problem in 10 years of ownership.

Very true, though to the auto ignorant they seem to forever remain as status symbols. In 2004 my wife had a 2003 4Runner that we bought new, sticker was about $35k. I had a 1995 540i that was maybe worth $7500. Nobody at her office paid any mind to the 4Runner, but one day she drove my BMW to work. "Hey, looks like somebody got a raise!" Morons.....

On the upside, these cars losing much of their snob appeal means that we can all get a fantastic car for very little money. I don't care if it's the latest model or not, an XJR will always be a great car to drive.

I have a coworker who ragged on me for my 530i. Yet she paid more than what my E39 cost for a used Trailblazer that's got bad electronics and a busted front facia she can't afford to fix because she's still making payments on it! Must have gotten the 60 month financing.

I had a coworker in a new Pathfinder give me crap about my old XJR. I asked him how much he paid for his Pathfinder, then told him that he could have bought three of my cars for the same money. That shut him up pretty fast.

Figure the odds of needing a major repair, like engine rebuild or tranny rebuild or both, in the relatively near future, is . . . 60%? More? How many forced induction cars are known to easily go 200K without a hiccup?

So, the bill from a Jag mechanic is going to be what, for a complete engine overhaul? $6K to $8K?

I can see why no-one is biting. Especially on eBay where you assume everyone lies.

The way I'd buy this car is if I was very wrenchy and also had a same-year same-model low-miles parts donor XJR in the backyard. Or a good Jag boneyard in the area.

It must have been a 750IL (E32 Chassis Code)....because 760IL (760Li) is a fairly new model..and the the first gen V12 cars are being given away right now.

All teasing aside, please don't park it on a dirt floor barn as that would cause issues to commence in an otherwise fine automobile!!! My barns would be very BAD places to store a vehicle.

Wish I could afford it as I do LOVE the look of Jags and the engine does have a better reputation than what Jaguar has done in the past several decades. My Grandfather and Uncle had several but that was decades upon decades ago. Wish I had just one of those old cars now!

I get a weird vibe from everyone at work about my car...one coworker said "oh yea, every 22yr old drives a BMW". My car is in the bottom 10% of value in the parking lot, but it's one of only 2 Germans.

Most people have no understanding of the value of what they consider to be "exotic" older foreign cars. Hell your average new car today is probably hovering around $25K. Just think of what Porsche or BMW you can get for that price.
