Proudly my answer will be 'no' to all but cigs and alcohol.
Of course those have ruined more lives than can be counted... |
My only recreational drug is beer. Besides a glass of champagne or few sips of wine for a toast that is the only form of alcohol I use anymore. It has been over twenty years since I had a hard drink.
I remember going to friends house back in the 80s and he showed me a shoe box FULL of Quaaludes and offered me some. I just said nope, turned around and went home. I did not want to be around that stuff. That guy spent time in prison due to drugs. |
I had my time with it in high school. Nothing really hard, just soft stuff, never really enjoyed it, except acid, but that started getting way too intense, and I knew I had to back off.
I really believe that good parenting from day 1 will give a kid the grounding he or she needs to know that experimenting may be ok, but there's a time to draw the line, and they'll recognize when that is. I did. No drugs other than alcohol/caffeine in probably 15 years now. No interest at all, really. IMO, college is NOT the place for it. Both my wife and I (girlfriend in 3rd year, been together since) got our partying days out of our system in high school. We both watched several people turn into "christmas graduates" in first year, because as soon as they got their first taste of freedom, they partied like rockstars and flunked out (or got kicked out) of the university. That's not to say we didn't tear it up quite a few times, but school was the priority, and rarely suffered due to partying. The stakes are much lower with respect to your future when you're in high school - you can afford to fail a few classes, or even a whole year (I did). University, not so much. |
