UPDATUM super duper match impotent INFO FYI!

as mentioned in my previous "super duper match from hell " post we iz UPGRADING THE HELL out of it.

TODAY is the day i go to airport and meet w/phil arrington(arringtonaccuracy.com) and make the dastardly handoff of my pride and joy. it will take months for him to get to this and thats OTAY as we didnt get drawn for squat this year hunting and its looking skeetchee if my son will be able to get off work to get over the counter tags for colorado.

so after a long call with phil..............we have OPTED OUT of a smith ent/sadlak/brookfield type-genre scope mt. they say they will return to ZERO but in reality if you own the above mt. or a 3rd generation springfield M1-A scope mt. you are best served NEVER TAKING IT OFF EVAR or risk loosing yer ZERO. and thats akin to cutting my HUEVOS OFF!

since i always WANT THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS cuz i can...........we want a springfield that is LEGAL for 1000yd match shoots w/out a scope, and the ability to add a scope for hunting.

well ol phil arrington has the ANSWER! a leatherwood 1913 rail going along top of receiver with its rear attachment point being the clip feed point. totally anchored. and thats key. why? porqui? because M-14's have a forward and rearward RECOIL! now what we will do is get some zoomy azz QD scope mt rings. not cheap azz ones. these will allow me to remove scope in mere seconds AND WILL POSITIVELY RETAIN MY COVETED "ZERO". it will reattach in seconds and life is good. once again we have a MULTI-PORPOISED FIRE SPOON!

now with the smith/sadlak/brookfield type designs what you have to watch for is TOLERANCES! each and every M1-A/M-14 has DIFFERENT RECEIVER TOLERANCES and this is CRITICAL for mounting these type scope mounts. ie. angle of dangle is always different, thereby making these uber critical as far as mounting them to spoon receiver and ya better have yer ducks in a row and a machine shop with precision tools.

now as far as sadlaks aluminum lightweight scope mt...............well these aint da way to go. alum is soft. when spoon fired its back to newtons law. for every action an equal opposite reaction. once again forward and rearward recoil. these beats the POO POO out of these aluminum mounts and sooner if not later yer ZERO is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off due to pounding of alum contact points on receiver.

so if hell bent like i thought i was for a sadlak/smith mt. stick with their STEEL or TITANIUM mounts and now ya know the reason.

now i will be saving weight, which was entire crux of da biscuit and i will have attained my lofty goal of scope retaining ZERO when removed and placed back on numerous times.

think about how life is so much better some days w/out a scope and the ability to pull out of backpack/truck and place on and off at yer lil hearts DESIRE and NEVER LOOSE YER ZERO and SAVE WEIGHT!

and the best part.............phil sells these mil spec 1913 picatinny rails for $129. the QD rings i am not sure of cost yet.

and thats MY MULTI TASKING M1-A/M-14 ADVICE FOR THE DAY!

Thread title was super-duper MATCH

I was thinking of this one, coming up in October..

home

Will settle the debate of who is the best 10 ball player on the planet.

(edit) You want a test of accuracy? With a rifle it means great equipment, great ammo reloading, and a still day.

On a pool table, it's about the guy using the cue...it ain't the arrow, it's the indian. Yeah, it's skill to make a 1" group of 5 at 1,000 yards...but try running a six pak in 10 ball...that's to break & run the table 6 times in a row...you want accuracy? There it is...

man did i have a day at the aeropuerto. 1st phil arrington and i gabbed about all things in life, shot the breeze about good and bad, touched on politics, family, the world, aviation. blah blah.

as i arrived i got my super duper match out and brought it into phils hanger.

suddenly somebody from a hanger 1 door down pulls his cirrus out and i move my truck to clear wings. he walks over and lo and behold its ROCK McMILLIAN of mcmillian firearms fame. well i'll be dipped in poo. we shake hands and he remembered me from days gone by when i was selling them tooling and dick davies his production mgr. built my M40-A1 and my WIN M-70 .338 win mag. so we shucked and jived and talked about all things wonderful, politics, economy, aviation, invited rock up to the aeropuerto i work at for some "members only" fuel prices and he said "fer sure". hes doing alot of machine parts for dillions mini-gun military contracts aside from custom builds and fiberglass stock biz.

anyway rock takes off flying and phil and i sit down over some cold aquas and start talking M1-A's /M-14's.

i got there at 9 and left at 11:30am. so that kind of tells ya what kind of in depth chat we had on my super duper spoon, and its build. had a blast and there is nothing better than sitting down with a born and raised TEXAN SHOOTIST/ARMOURER/CAMP PERRY HIGH POINT MEDALIST. man what a gas it was. this guy knows his poo.

cannot wait to pick fleas off a flies azz at 1000yds iron sighted.

this damn thing will shoot WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY OVER MY HEAD and i cant wait.

left a box of federal match .308 and hes gonna zero irons in at 100yds and scope also for me. told him i wanna see how few of those rounds ya use zeroing.

im betting the guy will have (3) rd sighters on the irons and (3) rds for the scope, and it will be DEAD NUTZ ZEROED!

he said he was gonna take some pics of mine and use them on his website. wayyy mucho bueno.

arringtonaccuracy.com

mcmillianfirearms.com

when ya just gotta shoot the hell out of the "clown wanna bees" at the firing line(high scorer) and bring meat home every season(when drawn).

accuracy speaks VOLUMES!

got up early, drank my joe, pondered my navel..................and YEP im a gonna rejoin az. pistol/rifle assoc. and start 1000yd matches again on a regular basis. not just here and there 1-2-3 times a year.

figured it would be good practice for hunting, as well get tuned up for doing some 3-gun shoots. cant hurt too much..........well match ammo is spendy, its an all weather gig come rain snow sleet or shine, its a lousy $25 bucks to join, and i can hopefully gather up maybe a couple of the old team (4) to make up another (4) man team. always sucks when ya go solo and get thrown into a team by yerself not knowing the others abilities. remember its a COMBINED SCORE so if ya have a real moron on yer team yer score is gonna suck giant donkey ding dongs.

so yep.............here we go again over the edge.

will WORK for federal 168gr BTHP match ammo!

ya know im actually amazed that no one commented on the stainless magazine on this one. maybe there common everywhere else but not here. i went by dillon here to pick up some .45 grip screws and saw those and about keeled over. had never seen them before. made by checkmate ind. and they are current issue and mil-spec'd. i thought they were cool and rust-frei.

now what they need to do is make stainless 5 rd mags for hunters. uber coolness.

got some of checkmates 25rd mags also.

my younger son is big time in on the 1000 yd match action so im gonna get a family pass for us. $40 a year.

rasta fried! LOL! too funny. yes its one more damn thing i dont have to worry about rusting. the fortunate thing is my safes are NO LONGER subjected to any moisture coming from my swamp coolers. and thats a real damn good thang.

i have packed a corner full of dessicant for july/august in the safes because of high humidity here during our monsoon season.

after my 2 week elk hunt with a parkerized .45 COMPLETELY surface rusting in a bianchi mil spec holster during sideways sleet snow rain and never even taking it out of holster and coming home and finding it rusted...............I FLIPPED! what a GIANT PITA to clean that off.

so the corporate decision was made: STAINLESS ANYTHING when available. or ROBAR coating when spoon not available/mfg'd in stainless.

has made my life with multiple spoons WAYYYYYYYYYYYY EASIER on the maint. side. that way i have more time to fight with maint. on my P-CAR!
