Bats in the attiic

After the floods we had in 08 there are a lot of houses being torn down. There are alot of people complaining they are getting bats. I see alot more around here. So I went up in the attic and there are three or so there.

I have tried to see where they are leaving at night but no luck. I thought I would be-able to seal the hole they are using. Was thinking of using one or two bug canister spray things in hopes they would scram at the smell.

They are nice to have around just not in the attic. One even came in the house from somewhere. Scared the cageebees out of my aunt. Anyone know a good way to rid these out. Would per-fer not killing them. They are protected here and are a good bug eaters..

remember that scene in the john candy(?) movie where they tried to get that bat out of the cabin..? they had hockey masks on..funny scene.

i helped a friend...bats where in his garage. we installed a few bat houses around the home. he would check periodically. when the bats were gone, we went "level orange" and sealed every tiny opening into the garage. seemed to work. i dont know if they are the same bats, but the bat homes are being utilized.

Try putting mothballs in the attic.
Lots of them.
Most critters don't like the smell.

I had this problem once and solved it with one of those ultrasonic (?) gizmos you plug into the wall to get rid of mice. I absolutely swear by these things for both mice and bats.

Already have been down this road...
You have to get rid of the bat urine because thats what brings them back. Find out where they are coming in and plug that hole.
So..what I did is during the evening, when they are gone, I completely bleached the wood and the entire area where they land, pure bleach. Then I put up 4 lamps with 100 Watt bulbs. It worked and in about 2 days no more bats.

Thanks:: I will try again to see where they go out from,,try the bleach and lights, moth balls. I was going to build a bat house but the winters here are very cold and don't think its a good idea. I forgot about them things you plug in the wall socket I used one in our other house for mice and it seemed to work.

Someone also told me to use oil of peppermint so thats on my list also.

6 species are on the endangered list and are protected. The rest are not.
