Fixie Fun!

So...I just finished building up some wheels for my fixie! Velocity deep-v with polka dots. Now, as some of you fellow cyclist understand the importance of matching. Rest assured, when the lights go out...the white dots glow in the dark to a lovely matching color of the historical Bianchi Celeste hue! I'm takin' it to the next level! What other fixie lovers are out there?! By the way, if you can watch the wheels spin at night without throwing up.....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1283471865.jpg

Mike - I thought they finally ruled in court that "skip braking" counts as a brake. I finally sold my fixie, but miss it dearly. However, it funded some nice suspension upgrades :)

Purdy.... And no brakes?

Actually, the brakes are very powerful, the riders' leg muscles provide the halt.

(Josh - that's news to me, but I've taken the summer off from current events, so I'm sure you're right. See ya Thursday)

Hipster! SmileWavy

(j/k, fixed gear stuff pays a good portion of my salary. Looks nice.)

Mrmerlin 09-02-2010 09:07 PM

Thanks guys!

My camera won't take a picture in the dark.
I'll keep trying.

It's funny to me that fixed gear has taken off so much, and has been embraced by the hipster culture. back when i was in college (only about 6 years ago) there were about 3 of us on a campus of 38,000 that rode fixed gears. i built a surly up with a flipflop...rode that to class and kept my echo for trials riding.

Turn the flash on and take a picture in the dark.... If it doesn't overload your camera....

nikita76 09-03-2010 08:35 AM

porsche4life,

Did that, flash lit up the room and took a near perfect picture. The bike was bright and the rest of the room was dark!

Nice. I'm not a huge fixie fan (mine never gets ridden anymore) but I certainly appreciate a clean build.

I like your Fixie.

I've thought about building one but my project list is so long at the moment.

Nice fixie!

I built a single speed a couple years ago. Simple beast, but I ride it all the time. Not so sure I would feel safe on a brakeless fixie here in Seattle. Lots of urban madness and hills that require a brake.

Nikita that Bianchi is AWESOME! I love celeste, every time I see a red or blue Bianchi it makes me sad.
Agreed, let's see a pic w/ the lights out!

Tobra 09-03-2010 10:46 AM

with digital camera, you can usually turn the flash off, and it figures out exposure, will have to hold vewy, vewy still.

porsche4life 09-03-2010 11:18 AM

With no flash it won't reflect.

I have the utmost respect for fixie riders, especially when I see them grinding uphill. Those guys are strong.

And descending downhill with a foot on the tire to brake the bike before a corner is amazing to watch. I think they're extremely skillful riders.

It's really the purest form of cycling.

As for me, I don't have the balls to ride a bike with no brakes. People think I'm nuts for liking down tube shifting bikes. "How can you take your hand off the handlebar to shift?" is always a question, followed by "Have you had that bike since high school?" :D
