The engine I bought last year, and now my old one to be sold, came in a crate similar to VZ's and it worked out well. The pallet-style base is key for forklift compatibility.
Unfortunately my engines didn't come with flat fans or turbos

Shipped mine from Idaho for about $280 via u-ship.com with no fancy crate other than the pallet. The engine was tethered to the pallet. In hind sight, may want to put a couple blankets or something soft & thick under the engine to protect the heat exchangers from the pallet and absorb some of the bouncing while traveling. Everything arrived safe & sound. Need a fork lift at each end, which the trucking company can provide; they just need to know it. No additional charge. Amazing service although it took a few days more than expected, but I wasn't in any hurry, just caused a little anxiety.
