Bear Poop?

Anybody know what bear poop looks like?

We found this amid a bunch of garbage strewn all over the yard the other day. We've been here 5 years and never had a problem with anything getting in the garbage. We've seen bears around, but this is a little too up close and personal...big ass teeth marks on the plastic can lid too.

Yeah, I know, there's really nothing else it could be and I shouldn't be complaining because we invaded it's territory.

At least they're going to sleep soon. Until then, I think we'll keep the garbage in the garage...not my garage, the other one.

The dollar bill is for scale...

Does it have little bells in it and smell like pepper?

Yes. 100% sure. Too big for a coyote or fox who also eat berries / seeds. That's a good size bear. You can generally judge by the diameter of the feces. Big turd = big orifice = big bear. Looks like he didn't eat any trash the day before - you usually can find pieces of plastic bag, diaper, aluminum foil etc. in it, if it is a trash bear.

Absolutely get your garbage secured. You will have a problem bear about the second or third time this guy comes around. Then you remove the garbage and the bear will look for the food in your garage and residence.

I would get a depredation permit and kill it, if it becomes a problem bear / repeat offender.

Hate to break it to you Rich, but bears don't really hibernate around here. They are actually quite active through the winter.

Bear season opens September 1st. I could be enticed to sit comfortably on your deck, sipping one of your IPA's, with a .375 in my lap...

Dang! Bad enough to throw garbage all over your yard, but to take a crap in it, too? How thoughtless.

BTW, when you write things like "The dollar bill is for scale..." you take the fun out of it for those of us who live to think up smart ass remarks for interesting pictures, like, say one that includes a dollar bill next to a big pile of poop.

LOL good comments.
Does it stick to your fur?
Did you make stew out of it?

5 guys go on a fishing trip and decide that they will draw straws and the person with the shortest straw has to do all the cooking and cleaning and be the beotch while the others fish all week.
The only way out of this is if someone complains about the food. While the four lucky ones go out fishing, the man left behind decides on a plan to get out of his duties.
He goes into the woods and gets some bear poo, and makes a stew that is about 25% bear poo. The fishermen come back for dinner, after having an amazing day of fishing, and sit down for the stew. Everyone makes a face as they eat it but no one says anything.
The next day the man left behind makes a stew that is 50% bear poo. The fisherman return with another boatload of fish and sit down for the stew.
Again, despite sick looking faces and more than a little nausea, they say nothing.
On the third day, the cook gathers up all the bear poo and makes a stew that is 100% bear poo. The fishermen come back from their best day yet and sit down to eat.
After the first spoonful one of the fishermen throws down his spoon and yells ‘This stew tastes exactly like bear poo! …but it's just the way I like it!’
