Look what showed up at our tech day
I know they are probably a dime a dozen out there on the west coast, but this is the first one I have ever seen in person!
![]() ![]() Couple of other pictures of the tech day. Caymans sure are getting popular. ![]() ![]()

Love Caymers! I shall possess one some day. I shall.

We had a GT3RS like that at one of our autocrosses. I like the grey less in person than in the press photos. Still an amazing car. and the sound at high rpms... YUMM!

My next Porsche will be a Cayman S! Of course, that will be a long way off from today (Michigan economy, and all...)

BTDT... I'm a little disappointed in mine, to be honest. Then again I was also dissapointed in the 993 I briefly owned (too "soft"), so what do I know....
Lovely car, looks great, handles great... Few things I dislike about the Cayman S: - The mid engine is louder than in the boxster, maybe reverb from the roof, and I'm not talking "good loud". I mean parasitic noises, belts noises, who knows... Ironically the exhaust is too quiet. It therefore does not feel as refined as a 996/997 from an NVH standpoint. - The car lacks power bad. Yes, all journalists have mentioned that, but how bad can 295 hp be, right ? Well, those 295 hp (mine is an 06) are the *laziest* 300 horses I ever experienced. Until I used an aftermarket solution to wake up the E-gas pedal, it felt like the handbrake was accidentally left on. It's better now, but, mehh... my ex-320hp 996 felt tons stronger despite being heavier. - The traction is nowhere near as good as that of a proper 911. I know, mid engine, great turn in, yada yada, and I loved my old boxster so I figured the 987 had the 997 licked on handling... But at the end of the day, I *like* having weight on the rear tires after all, and shoot out of corners. This one (987CS) comes in hotter, rotates better, drifts nicely, but it lacks the grip and HP to come out of a turn like I enjoyed doing in the 996.... - Last but not least: that thing is nowhere near track friendly out of the box, unless you're taking a leisurely stroll in the beginner's group. The power steering pump will overheat and blow up, the engine will experience Vapor oil separator failure issues, and oil starvation on sustained left turns on anything but street tires. $hit, my stock 83 911 is more track capable out of the box, slower, I know, but damn... Dissapointing... But it's a lovely car ! I'm having the same relationship with this car that I had with my 993, I get more enjoyment from looking at it than actually driving it (Ok, that's an exageration in both cases, but I mean I wish I enjoyed driving it more.. it's a very capable fun car still) ![]() Not dissing the cayman, I wanted one bad, now that I have one I'm not so sure. Hope this helps you be more patient ;-) Maybe the 09 and above with DFI and more power are substantially better, dunno ! Last edited by Deschodt; 09-13-2010 at 10:21 AM.. |

I got a shot of an identical GT3RS at the Porsche Zentrum in Stuttgart a few days ago. Will post photos when I get a decent Internet connection.

There were two matching ones just like the one above in White. One of them did some time in Black. The hardware in Green was impressive as usual. I fortunately got a guy with a regular boxster...it was still faster than my S2.

I was at the Porsche Fest at the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation Saturday. It was nice to see the new Spyders mixing it up with cars from the 911S Registry and 356s. There was a continuity there that was undeniable, and it is nice to see new cars that I would actually want to own and be seen in.
This is a Golden Age for cars. |

I imagine a few of those will be at the DE this weekend. The good part is they make the average joe fast on the track - the bad part is that the average joe now thinks he speed racer and can overcome the laws of physics...
last DE I was at - I was instructing a guy in a newer 996 Me: Tell me what just happened (going around turn one at a good clip) Student : The PSM clicked on controlled the rear of the car from stepping out because I let up on the gas at the wrong place Me: Yep - keep you foot in it - OR gradually come off the gas at that point - but really better to go in a little slower and get on the gas earlier to have more momentum out of that corner. Student: what would have happened if I hadn't have given you that answer? Me: then you would have been unaware that the car saved your a$s and we would have slowed down.

I'd rather own an older SC than a Caymen. Its a real 911. Just my .02.

Same. Hence my 370z comment. The newer 911 series does nothing for me. Hate the lines of the newer models.
