Seems like a rather mundane day at work.....

I would be much more afraid descending.
I've climbed as far as 90 feet on a pole with only climbing hooks and a waist belt and that is high enough. The sway at 90 feet is considerable. I wonder what the sway is on the 1600 foot tower, guided or not. I know this, you'd better be ready for it. Not a good place to get sick. |

The hard part is hoisting someones stupid microwave dish up.. then aiming it on a cloudy day. Most tower guys are ex cons or drug addics. I hate my ****ing job so bad.

"there is no fast way down"
I think it would be standard practice to have a parachute on your back. You have to be wearing a harness anyhow and modern chutes pack pretty small. It would be comforting to know if a storm is brewing close by, you point yourself away from other towers nearby, a little jump and you are down safe and sound in a minute or less.

Jeebus and he free climbed most of it. WTF???!!!
Nice to see he occasionally stopped to hook into his harness every so often.

I had to climb down a flare tower from a few hundred feet up with no safety gear. I'd been hoisted there on a winch line run over a snatch block, but when it was time to come down (storm approaching), there was nobody below. That was distressing.
I can't imagine this though. Perhaps they should build the tower with a populated tool locker at the top to at least make the climb that much easier. |

Once I did a 140 foot climb on a tower.
It was on the tippy top of a 9000 foot mountain, which made it feel MUCH MUCH higher...

Hats off to you. That was awesome! I'm scared of heights, so I was sweating watching it. You don't get paid enough. Don't tell me you go up there to change the bulb in the beacon?
