Cheap Sport Seats

One of the major items on my E36’s wish list is new front seats, the current ones are worn out and the victim of a bad dye job. A friend of mine is a dealer for these: Racing Seats He can get me a set of Recaro SRD replicas for $380-ish including shipping. He has one in his E30 M3 race car and a friend has them in his 325i, both are happy with them. Unfortunately they’re in Houston so I can’t just go look at them, does anyone have experience with any of the cheap sport seats that are available? I know they won’t be Recaro quality, but even a decent used set of Recaros is 1/3 what I paid for the car.

What about a set of vaders? I see them fairly often on CL around here. They are more money, but at least they add value to the car.

Why do they call them vaders anyway? Cool seats but I prefer my comforts.

Well, the outline looks like Darth Vader.

I've sat in Vaders and don't like them. I would take a set of OEM sport seats but it's hard to find them in good shape for a decent price. Plus I think the SRD is super comfy, if these are a decent copy then I will be happy.

Personally, I'd not want no-name seats. I think seats are a safety item. I'd rather stick with the name brands. If your friends are happy. With them though...

I have experience with those seats in particular. They're very comfortable and hold you in quite well, as I've used them on the track. You do sit a little higher, so keep that in mind. The red one on the left is what I'm referring to. You can use harnesses with them too.

I had a real SRD in my 911 for a bit and really liked it except for the high seating position. Not sure how it differs from the BMW sport seats in that regard but the design is good.

Dave, are you talking about the Samari seats? The Ronin are the SRD copy, they look a little more DD friendly.
