Ever Feel Like Throwing It All In And Living In One Of These?

Polishing your 12 gauge on the front porch, hound dog at your feet, a lil Hank playing in the background off an old AM radio...

Might be something to all that.

Nope not me, there is no garage. I will never have a house without a garage!

I prefer a house with electricity & A/C and running water and trash pickup.

Mike, I've been to your house.

I fail to see the difference.

Every freakin day... I swear the wife and I are just doing the treadmill so my kids can go to college and they can get their own treadmills.

Not sure if the current rewards are worth the cost.

Hey why not? I wouldn't do it alone... A nice lady by my side would be the best way to go.

You can buy a really cheap house in a smaller town in country Australia and I mean small... Less than 50 local people.
If you had about $100,000 you could buy a 3 bedroom house on a decent sized block with a big shed.

There would be a local "pub" for socializing. Just don't expect too much.

If you really look at how most us live then this is a better option.
Once you get yourself into a certain amount of dept you're basically a modern day version of a slave anyway.

That "shotgun shack" looks like the neighbor's house across the street from us. They just tore the shack down and the entire neighborhood celebrated!

I lived in this two summers for 4 months each summer. No electricity, no running water, wood and Coleman stoves, laundry by hand, no contact (except for radio communications and medivacs to the hospital) for the whole summer. I only used 15 gallons of white gas for a whole summer. Loved it. I could live like that permanently. 12x20 ft. log cabin built in 1941.

A couple of photos of the new backyard

Some photos of our shack and backyard on this link. No cable, no city trash pick-up, cannot see neighbors. One has built 10 feet off our property line but it is so wooded and so far from the house we can't even see their smoke from the stove.

Somewhere are some of the first house we bought, $17,000 including the acre of land. Sold it for same a decade later and it is still worth about that right now (I know the current owners). Somewhat nicer than Lubbey is posting, not as nice as Kevin's! Think 1890's farm house, plain, VERY plain, indoor plumbing installed in 1960s along with the electricity and two bedrooms in the back.
