What to do in Paris?

I'm getting sent to Paris for a week of aerospace work training, then 5 more weeks in southern Central France near Lyon where I've been before.

Yes of course there are lots of touristy things to do and see in Paris, but what about non-touristy see the country-side off the beaten path stuff?

adventure sports type things?

suggestions?

I was just there last week. I had to do the touristy things because of my wife. It was my fourth visit there.

One thing I did see in the hotel lobby, which looks like a must-do (if I ever get drugged and dragged back to Paris) was a pamphlet on tours of the French Revolution and WWII historical sites. I want to say these were walking tours, but that can't be correct. My wife would never care for this stuff, so I'll drop her off at Lafayette Galleries next time and go on my own. Bring your wallet. Man, Paris is expensive. I saw 1 litre mugs of Stella for 30 Euros ($39). French beer SUCKED and was crazy expensive. Our "average" quality lunch for two at a Chinese place with two TingTaos was 57 Euros.

There's also a great torture museum there. Can't remember the name or location. It was excellent.

What kind of interests do you have? List the top 3 or 4 and I will give you contact information to hook you up.

Obviously Paris is world class for food, wine, fashion, art, parks & gardens, museums of all types. They have many very active athletic organizations that cover virtually any sport or game.

Cool Stuff in Paris | Cool and Weird Stuff I'd visit the catacombs or wax museum if there was time. Way too much to do.

My favorite thing to do in Paris is my favorite thing to do most anywhere; ie. just hang-out, eat, meet people and hang-out with them, take day trips, etc., etc...

My brother's neighborhood in Paris is one of the best and you can walk to cool restaurants, great video rental places, markets, car dealers and every great store on earth. To say that it's a world-class city is a major understatement. I might be going in a couple weeks if the planets line-up properly. :)

As far back as 20 yrs. ago I was looking for ideas for when I'm king of the world.

If you'll have a car and want to do some day trips, go to Verdun, Reims and the beaches at Normandy.

jwasbury 09-22-2010 05:38 PM

One of my favorite things to do in Paris is bicycle through the city.

The city has a network of automated bicycle rental stations and the cost is very reasonable...check out the website: Vélib' - vélos en libre-service à Paris - Site Officiel - Paris

There is an english language pamphlet you can download from the site. You'll need to have one of those "smart" credit cards with the embedded chip and PIN in order to use the system. Its an absolute blast to pedal around the streets of Paris.
