Paris. One of my absolute favorite places to visit.
London is nice too. Either way, 4 days is not really enough for either one... |

I can't imagine that you would lose either way. London, Berlin, Rome, Paris, all would probably be a great trip.

Do you speak French? If not, London will be easier and less stressful.
Both are world class cities with histories and culture that are hard to match anywhere in the world. What are your interests? I would be willing to provide a list of things to do matching your interests in either one. Also what time frame would you be going?

It would be in late October (2011). Just my wife and me. I know 4 days isn't a lot though. I'd say architecture and art would top the list, with cuisine thrown in there too. Very general, I know...

Cool little old antique shops would be cool too. We're not into big shopping like at Harrod's or anything like that.

Si tu peut parler français, Londres n'est pas pareil que Paris. As my friend's son opined after living there for a year: "London's a wretched place!"

Better architecture than England. More art than you can see in 4 weeks, let alone 4 days. And, if you don't prefer French cuisine to what the English call food, check your pulse. You may have passed on... JR |

Both have world class museums. Though Paris does have D'Orsay, the Louvre & Rodin's works. It just depends on what you like... For cuisine, Paris wins hands down. |

Paris wins....
you may also recall a recent eval by a visiting Cardinal to London.. it's like entering another 3rd world country these days.. been to both.. so it's Paris.. a romantic weekend..and you choose London.. why not just go to the track yourself, & buy her a vacuum.. 'that time in Paris' will make her smile for a long time.. Rika |

I think London works for you if you're looking for boutiques in addition to sightseeing. Though I agree they are about equal.

4 days is about right for London but for Paris, you will wish you had more time . . .

I lived in London 8 years ago and spent a couple of weeks in Paris as well. I would say that I prefer London, it is a bit more open and clean, and has the great parks. Both have top notch museums and historical sites. although most of the ones in London are donation which is especially nice if you want to breeze through several. Paris has much better food although some of the tastier restaurants I went to had squat toilets which was weird for me.

London. You speak the language and its nice this time of year.
If its closer to the holidays I would take the train over to Europe and go to the Christmas markets at Nurnburg or Dresden. Well worth the trip.

Paris every time.
Charismatic, great eye sugar. Architecture superb. Great shops for the wife and you. Forget the language issue - you are not the first American to visit. Its really nice sitting in a restaurant not having to understand other diners talking rubbish and a great ice breaker when you hear someone speak English in the hotel bar. Do all the tourist spots - Eiffel tower, Sacre coure church, Louvre, get a good pocket guide book. Stay in the best hotel you can afford and use Tripadvisor and Hotels.com to help with their reviews to point you to the best places. Venere.com is great for hotel bookings - most hotels you don't pay till you leave.

Lets see, sit in cafe's and listen to someone speak a foreign language and all the while talk about and against you, hearing the name "American" and getting those looks. Really a nice atmosphere to enjoy a meal! Then there is the fact that you are spending money in a country that has not supported America in any way since WW2, and goes against us on many if not all decisions and votes in the United Nations. Sorry but I admit that I am biased. Would much prefer to visit London and support a country that supports us. For that matter, Germany, Holland Denmark and so on support America more than france does.

Paris is the best city (though Venice is a close second) to just set out walking...

Fly non stop to London. stay 2 or more nights. Get on Eurostar (less security than flying). Be in Paris in 2 hours 20 minutes. Stay 2 or more nights. Fly home from Paris. Just a guess, if you have German roots being from IL., I enjoy Berlin. John
