Boring...

OK... My kids are almost grown (2x Girls 20 and 21, Boy 14). I have a great job. House paid for... Money in the bank.
No regular GF or other hassles but I see a lady occasionally. She has young children so living together wouldn't be so smart.

I love film photography and my P car... I have a workshop full of tools. Do all of my own work on my house and cars.
Summer is just starting here. Always lots to do but not much to look forward to I'm afraid.

>>>> I'm bored. Like life has no purpose anymore.

My life briefly... Just sit and watch TV most nights.
Walk most evenings. Watch what I eat. I have heaps of friends who I see regularly.
Movies, Clubs, Live music, Restaurants, Country drives, Camping with my kids Etc...

Is it any wonder I spend so much time here.

Life change I think... Maybe some travel?

Wow..you have a problem and in a situation that most of us would die for....!

My vote...but an old car that needs to be restored...save an old car from the crusher...help out the economy..occupy your time...all boxes are checked!

Like some of these guys are saying....take up a hobbie that interests you. Traveling, restorations, music......who knows one of these could lead you down a new path in your life. The problem is, you will never know until you try.

Travel, track days, new hobby

or, if none of that does it for you, I'll go ahead and say what someone else will say eventually anyway.

hookers and blow.

On a more serious note....

Hmm, it sounds like you're looking for some excitement. You've got all of the stuff that makes like pleasant and enjoyable, but maybe lacking some excitement. It seems like there are a few options that could fix that. Take your car to the track. I suspect that's exciting. Get a pilot's license, that might be exciting. Make it a goal to go learn something. That may not be exciting, but it'd give you something else to do other than sitting on your butt.

The last option has the greatest possibility of turning your life on end. Get a chick, not just any chick, a crazy chick. Maybe a young one that you have to work at keeping up with, but make sure she's crazy. It probably won't end well, and it'll probably end up costing you your money or sanity or several years off of your life.

But you won't be bored.

Peter,

I'm in a somewhat similar boat. Just ended a long term relationship and my kids are both in college. I do have a fairly new job I really like and that will keep me plenty busy for a while but the nights and weekends will be slower after mid November. Winter is here which makes the days short and reduces outside activities. Especially driving activities.

My list for reducing the boredom:

Lot's of physical activity. Yoga and biking are things I spend a lot of time on.

Dating - will start down the internet dating path soon as the break up is in the rearview mirror. Lot's of lovely ladies out there. I need to meet some different types of women than those I've dated in the last 3 years. I end up with the ones who need to settle down. Not sure I want that.

I have a guitar I bought for my son he left when he went to college. I've always wanted to learn how to play. Now is the time.

Volunteer work. I work for a non profit and will start volunteering through our agency after training in November.

If it were spring/summer I'd be at the track several times a month although the $'s add up quick and I just took on a house payment I haven't had in years. I race in a vintage group and that is a blast. Great people.

Cheers,
Jerry

I've been where you are a few times, I wish I could be there now! But with a 15 month old boy and a new job, I am not bored.

I suggest you get yourself into something that is near the edge of your skillsets. Something you have always wanted to do, but haven't, and that will seriously challenge you. An example that worked for me several years ago: I admired people who could fly model airplanes in a competition called "pattern." Requires very precise flying in front of judges, and requires an airplane built to a high level of precision. The flying part was well outside my skillset, and the precision building skills took years to attain. I gained a bunch of drive and big sense of accomplishment by getting good at this hobby.

This particular activity isn't for most people, but something as challenging might be for you.

Lou

Boredom is a highly elevated state. It suggests that you have the time, resources and desire to do something different.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity to spend some quality time w/ your son. You both should discuss and plan something very cool this summer. Something that the both of you will treasure till the end of your days on earth.
