bud (beer) grows mold.

MJ just dries out and becomes really harsh.

I can't see the fat, protein or carbs changing.

for protein, you can use Kjehdahl - gives totals only; protein content of plants drops drastically in fall - likely due to leaching after a frost ruptures the cells; not applicable here

I've never done analyses for fat, individual amino acids or vitamins - if I had they'd have some nifty new way to do it now anyway...

I DO see a new career in your future!

Sorry, thought you guys might want to hear the truth, as unappetizing as it may sound.
Accepting the truth is another issue.
Island can stand at the waterin' station allll day long. Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink.;)

We've gotten into the Greek Gods brand yogurt with honey. That stuff is killer with fresh raspberrys and granola. Yogurt has the beneficial bacteria that helps clean the sludge out of G.I track.

I've been getting into Culver Burger also. Only fast food burger around that tastes like a burger. Pricey, but real.

I think the micro-chains that get their ingredients from less mainstream sources will pick up marketshare, and thus force the big-chain R&D guys to start adding some "creative" chemicals to get back their customers. Geesh, why not fix their suppliers instead?

Dude! next time around, buy a regular burger sans the vegs...leave it out and see what happens.

Yogurt with live cultures has beneficial micro-organisms that help out-compete many nasties in the GI tract, and might possibly synthesize some beneficial nutrients for our bodies.

Interesting update from Gizmodo:

Whole story here:

Not a big deal guys.

I've seen decorators furnish homes with bagels, cakes, french bread, dried and coated with spray varnish. Doesn't rot or decompose once dried.

enzo1 11-07-2010 04:39 PM

buy a beef tenderloin, trim off the side piece, cut into pieces and send through #12 chile grind. Make patties, freeze then when u need them throw on grill..... best ever:) and no BS in them, then cook your fillets for now.....

There is no BS in the McDonald's ones either. Read my second link above. Here it is again:
The Burger Lab: Revisiting the Myth of The 12-Year Old McDonald's Burger That Just Won't Rot (Testing Results!) | A Hamburger Today

He made a burger the same size as the Happy Meal burger out of "home-ground fresh all-natural chuck" and it didn't decompose either. A larger home-made burger and a McDonald's Quarter-Pounder both did, the same amount.

The Conclusion

So there we have it! Pretty strong evidence in favor of Theory 3: the burger doesn't rot because it's small size and relatively large surface area help it to lose moisture very fast. Without moisture, there's no mold or bacterial growth. Of course, that the meat is pretty much sterile to begin with due to the high cooking temperature helps things along as well. It's not really surprising. Humans have known about this phenomenon for thousands of years. After all, how do you think beef jerky is made?

That's what I thought, that's why I thought a "control" burger of some kind of "pure" expensive meat would have been interesting.

This thread got me interested, so I looked up what is in a McDs burger. McDs is pretty open about their ingredients, and I don't think they could lie about it (given how many people are always gunning for them).

From what I could tell, McDs hamburger patties are 100% pure ground beef, with nothing added to them except a bit of salt for seasoning.

I don't know exactly what "normal" bread has in it, but the McDs bread doesn't seem to contain anything extraordinary for "normal" white bread.

So, a McDs burger doesn't seem to me to have anything evil about it, it's just meat, bread, cheese, etc.

100% pure ground beef

remember, ground hooves, entrails, etc. are all part of a "beef"

Our Govt allows hooves, entrails, etc. to be considered "100% pure ground beef?"

McDs only buys beef from USDA approved facilities. The description of what they use is "100% pure USDA inspected beef; no additives, no fillers, no extenders."

But, remember that no spines or brain matter can be used. That's where the Mad Cow Disease lives.

McLovin, don't defend McD's food. It's marginal at best. I'm sure the white bread has lard in it. And sugar.

Sugar yes, lard no. Pretty easy to find out, if you are interested:

I happen to have a package of store bought hot dog buns here, the ingredients are pretty similar.

Honestly, this is simply bad science used to forward an agenda, and because some folks have an axe to grind, it is accepted without question.

I agree, it's a lot of bad science, bandwagoning, urban myths, etc.

It's really tied into a society that is becoming increasingly unwilling to take any personal responsibility for anything, including how much and what one shoves in one's own piehole.

"It's not our fault, it's McD's fault for serving us hooves and "secret lard!"

Don't go looking at the ingredients in a typical Mexican-style chorizo sausage, then...
