The knitting needles thing really throws me. I consider that a quite viable weapon. If the plane were being hijacked, I am absolutely positive I could stab someone fatally with them.
And I would. Don't get me started on stiletto heels, chain belts or a well placed corner of the laptop sharply delivered to someone's temple... ![]() angela

Bases have nothing to do with it. Generally it's a courtesy for TSA to let airlines' crew members they see frequently (IE: Comair and Delta in Atlanta, CHQ, RW, S5 in Indy) to go through with minimal issues. BUT, it's certainly not a right of those crewmembers.

Just flew to Salt Lake City and back and was carrying 3 pump impellers weighing 12 lbs a piece in my carry on luggage. Those parts were the only reason for the trip and I could not let them out of my sight. It took 20 minutes each trip to sweet talk the TSA supervisor into letting me board the plane.
I remember traveling on the engineering school's dime to give conferences while carrying prototype projects. Each time I had to explain what the carbon fiber tubes with lasers and wires hanging out was used for. I got to a point where I actually enjoyed and looked forward to the contact with lovely TSA agents. ![]() Speedy ![]()

yes i agree, but my above reference was in response to an earlier post with regards to SIDA badges and bypassing security all together at their home base vs going through security at other airports.

Al alternative should be is give every pax a gun, or ever 2nd or 3rd pax a gun. You want to hijack this airplane? You have to get through them first. This is 99% whitewash, trying to make the public feel good and make them fly again. You want safety go the route the Israeli's do with security.
