The boy meets his dream car!!

Cool story for my son Harrison, he is a big car guy we watch Top Gear and talk about cars all the time, his dream car is the SLR Mercedes, he recently told me that he had finally decided that he would take the SLR over the Aston Martin DB9, it was a tough struggle for him but that was the one he wanted.
Our family took a week vacation in Cambria this summer and spent one day in and around Big Sur, we all stop and eat lunch, as we are walking back to the car Harrison spots an SLR in the parking lot, he freaks, can't believe it and procedes to drool all over the car.
He runs into the small boutique my wife is shopping at to tell her, the comes out and tells me he KNOWS the guy that owns the car is in the shop and I have to let him show me. I go in, he points him out, and I tell him there are over a hundred cars out there there is no way to tell for sure, he assures me THAT is the guy.
We go back over and clean some drool from the car, he is telling me on the specs on it, when his guy come out of the store and starts walking in the direction of the car, he freaks again, bets me $10 that it is him, we watch and sure as **** the guys pops the trunk on the SLR! I can not let Harrison miss this chance to see inside etc. so I walk up, tell him that is my sons dream car, he looks at Harrison and says, " Well Harrison bring those size 13 shoes over here and sit inside."
He opens it up, lets him get in feel around, he shows him how everything works, the car wont start until the guy gives it his thumb print!!! Harrison is speechless, this guys was so cool to him and us, he really made my sons day that day and it gave him something to rub in his older brothers face when we got home.

With luck that will motivate him to do GREAT in school so he can go to a top college and get a job that makes enough money to own something like that.

Cool story. I am sure all of friends have seen the pictures

Cool story. Nice that someone with such a cool toy would be willing to let a stranger sit inside.

Our autocross location is fairly public and we'd always get people stopping in to watch. Quite a few kids stood in the seat of my last 911 making "vroom, vroom" noises.

There are a few guys in our club that always make point to let the wee ones sit in their cars at the show. Hard to beat the smile on those kids faces.

A HUGE tip of my hat to the SLR owner...a small gesture to him, so meaningful to another.

May we all follow his example.

One of the guys that runs at our autocross has a Ford-GT. Everytime he brings it out it draws a croud. He is very happy to show the car to the guys.

A few years back the Ferrari club had rented the track where i was in charge of Safety. My little one wanted to come along so he sat in timing and scoring and was catered around the track by a number of Friends. At the end of the day a very wealthy man that owns a fleet of Ferraris had his Enzo out. As we entered the paddock he was about to put it in for the day. I had my youngest with me and asked if he could get in while he parked the car. The driver obliged, moving his helmet and put my 8 year old in the passenger seat, all you could see was the top of his blond head. Instead of pulling into the garage he took a spirited run through paddock area. Over the sound of the Enzo we could all hear my youngest laughing. Everybody though it was hilarious. So they pulled in and he didn't want to get out. So the driver pulls his car out again and made a lap on the course. To this day I get comments from folks that were there and watched at how ecstatic my son was, but more so I still hear from that driver about how he enjoyed taking him out and my son's reaction.....So you guys out there with means to afford such cars, wanna make a kids day? Take them for a ride, you can't imagine what it does to little boys., So now he's 15 and still talks about that, and his career goal, An Radiologist, so he can buy his first Ferrari. Good stuff!

I do that w/ the 430 from time to time...pushbutton start. If I was single, it'd be the easiest way to get into those MILFY pants!

Jay Leno credits a childhood neighbour as the one who turned him on to cars. He let Leno sit in his XK120 when he was young. Leno is apparently really gracious towards young children with all of his cars.

Small update, I wanted to keep the boy motivated so we took him to a Porsche dealer to look at some cars but was unfortunately blown off by the staff so we walked next door to the Rolls Royce dealer and the guy spent about 45 min showing the boy all the cars he had and explaining everything that makes them a Rolls he was a class act, Porsche not so much sorry to say.

I was a car nut at a very young age. One summer, when my mom wasn't working, she said she'd take my sister and me once a week to do anything we wanted. I wanted to go to the Ferrari, Porsche and Rolls Royce dealers on Lemmon Ave. in Dallas. I can't find the shot of me in the Ferrari dealership, but here I am around 1980 at the Rolls dealership.

At about the same time, a guy in our church worked at the local BMW dealer and also autocrossed his '72 2002. He took me along one day and let me ride with him. He also got one of his buddies in a longhood P-car to let me ride along. That was a dream come true.

And here I am around 1987 with my first car.
