why are people on internet forums such AZZholes?

I like to check out some different forums, about all kinds of things. But 1 thing I notice is that people online are really nasty and are class a AZZholes. Example, people on Vwvortex are all grammar and spelling nazi's, Gun forums in particular are viscous...the ar ones in particular; AR15 forum people are INCAPABLE of accepting anything as ok if it isn't a certain brand. If you don't agree, they argue and call you all kinds of names, citing your post count as a badge of knowledge.
Glock, 1911 and Sig forums are almost as bad.
Atv boards are ALWAYS brand whore or haters
Why are people like this>? it is so much deeper than a typical ford>Chevy or whatever type thing.
I figure that these people are the ones that have alot of repressed anger or something.
I just don't get all the hate...

screw U

:D

sammyg2 10-26-2010 12:18 PM

They only do that to people from jersey ;)

71T Targa 10-26-2010 12:26 PM

Yeah, I don't understand the mentality of hiding behind a keyboard saying things you'd never say or do in person. I guess it makes them feel bigger and badder than they could ever hope to be in real life.

Case in point; "Rest assured if I was there I would have taken the AK from him and bashed all his teeth out with the butt of the stock...."

Really??? If you'd been there you'd have taken an AK from someone and bashed their teeth out???

NICKG 10-26-2010 12:26 PM

where I am in NJ is NOTHING like you think it is....btw. I don't even have a JOISEY accent

71T Targa 10-26-2010 12:31 PM

And another thing I've never understood; quoting someone then changing the quote and saying you 'fixed' it. :)

You think with only 2500 posts I even take you cerriusly? Screw you, poopy head!

GH85Carrera 10-26-2010 12:40 PM

No doubt a lot of it is the fact that they are NOT face to face.

I have been called names on this forum more than once. It does not bother me at all.

I don't think anyone has called me a name face to face since high school. I just figure they are at a loss for words, and their point of view is so far from reality they have nothing left but to yell names or cuss.

NICKG 10-26-2010 12:42 PM

maybe I can bribe Todd to give me a higher post count Red...

RWebb 10-26-2010 12:49 PM

grammar is imp. b/c it enhances understanding when you ask a question (or answer one)

spelling is imp. b/c people cannot find threads using the search engine if the terms don't match

both can also confer the idea that the poster is not too bright and/or careless, hence not likely to give or follow good advice

Only 2506 posts? What do you own, a lowly 928 or 944 or something?

turn in your man card now pusssy.

trader220 10-26-2010 01:04 PM

I find the same thing all the time and my conclusion is probably similar to others. I used to do question and answer on some of what used to be very active equity options boards back in the late 1990’s until about 2002 when those boards dried up. Now I had about 12 to 15 years in the business at that time and I owned seats on several options exchanges so I had a pretty darn good background in options. What I would run into are the same blowhards who claimed they made millions and millions and they knew everything and blab la bla . When either I or one of the decent people would ask them a question they would never answer just scream about how much they make and how everyone else is nothing compared to them.
Since then I mostly assume that everyone on the internet is rich and good looking and they all retired early from their huge scores in the markets. I used to ask them how it could be that more Ferrari’s were owned by people I met on line then ever produced?
The answer is simple… Many people just cant handle the anonymity of the internet and they seek the attention and accolades they feel they deserve in the real world and don’t get. Obviously on the internet they can say and do things they could never ever do in real life and they cant resist the urge to be something they wish they were.

On a positive note this forum is for the most part devoid of that one of the things I like about it.

ODDJOB UNO 10-26-2010 01:15 PM

my name is "STUD MUFFIN" and I'M DOINKING YOUR WIFE!

see that was easy.............................AND SAFE!

face to face confrontation is just so MESSY sometimes!

Rick Lee 10-26-2010 01:21 PM

SIGforum is rough. They don't get into flame wars over there because the site admin., Parabellum, bans people instead of warning them. He's ruthless. I feel like George Costanza trying to ask for bread from the Soup Nazi over there. I use that site for straightforward gun Q&A only, no commentary on anything else.

azasadny 10-26-2010 01:27 PM

That's exactly why I'm on this forum and not the others...

pwd72s 10-26-2010 01:35 PM

This is a really good car...much better for my current lifestyle than the Porsche I used to have...a lot less trouble, drives out faster, gets better mileage, and is a fun & easy driver. Faster in the twisties than a well set up 944.

No more PCA, R Gruppe, or early S registry for me. Glad to be shed of 'em!

Now let the hate filled posts begin!

YOU NEED A "WHALE TAIL " on that thing!

pwd72s 10-26-2010 01:50 PM

Most Bullitt owners were smart enough to order "spoiler delete"...

But I did have a local who owned a GT telling me I should stripe & spoiler it...he was serious. That's it tho...a whale tale. Lord knows how many times I'd cringe seeing one of those on an early 911...

Be careful here oddjob. Oh wait, I'm NOT an attorney..lol!

Rot 911 10-26-2010 01:50 PM

Ford Fender & worm is used for trolling...;) I was baiting...:D

ODDJOB UNO 10-26-2010 02:03 PM

most of 98% of the time on here and elsewhere its for a laugh pure and simple.

1% of the time its for info regarding a project.

and finally 1% is just when its too damn hot or rainy outside and i have already cleaned (2) safes full of spoons and am TOTALLY BORED!

i cant count how many times someone local here gets a p-car and "tricks" it all out and shows up at the track like hes steve mcqueen, sans GULF windbreaker and ascot.

same goes for other forums. marlinforums is about as hillbilly as ya can get somedays.

m-14 forum if ya dont have a walnut stocked USGI ISSUE m-14 you are POO or if you didnt serve in the "NAM" yer poo.

hkforum everyone there has each and every proof marking ever stamped on any HK memorized.

offshoreonly has miss geico and all the "geico groupies" and a battle btwn brand names like you wouldnt believe. my fountain has BIGGER CLEATS than yer DONZI

and so on and so on........................

but with any forum it all comes down to when(if ever) they take the vehicle or the boat out to race, and ya really get to hear the stories grow by the second.

go to the vintage bike forums and you have none stop "experiments gone wayyy wrong" such as can i put a honda SL-125 engine in a suzuki TM-400 cyclone frame type of banter back and forth.

yep for the most part.................its 24/7/365 laughs.

i'll bet cha wish ya can be HOT LIKE ME! LOL!

Shrek, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lopez were all having lunch together.

Shrek said, "I have always thought that I'm the strongest man in the world, but how can I be sure?"

Brad Pitt said, "I'm pretty sure I'm the hottest man alive but I've never had it confirmed."

Jennifer Lopez agreed. "I'm told I'm the sexiest of them all, but sometimes I wonder."

They all decided that the best way to find out if their beliefs were true was to approach the wicked Queen's mirror to confirm for them

whether Shrek was the strongest, Brad Pitt was the hottest and Jennifer Lopez was the sexiest.

They agreed to meet again the next day for lunch to discuss their findings.

The next day Shrek walked up with a smile. "Well, it's true. The mirror told me that I am the strongest man in the world!"

Jennifer Lopez followed and boasted, "It is true, it has been confirmed, I am the sexiest of them all!!"

Brad Pitt walked in, head bent, almost with tears in his eyes, and asked, "Who in the world is ODDJOB UNO???????

Bwaahaaa!!!

Hey, want to know a secret? I hang out here because I LIKE the people! Of all the bazillion people who use this site, I have exactly ONE on ignore. That's it. One person that I don't want to see/hear ever.

All the rest of ya? You're okay. Mustangs and all. ;)

Two guys were sitting at a bar on top of a skyscraper.
One starts up a conversation and says, did you know there's an updraft right here that is so strong this time of day that you can actually float?
the other guy isn't buying it.

the first guy says, no, it's true. Watch!

He jumps off the edge of the building, falls a few feet, then floats back up and just hovers there. After a little while he gently steps back onto the building.

the other guy is amazed and has to try it. He steps off, and plummets countless stories to a very ugly death.

The bartender looks at the first guy and says, " you really are an arse hole when you drink, superman".

everybody's a secret agent! spy vs spy!

Hugh R 10-26-2010 04:27 PM

Anonymity is the key. I wouldn't (or try not to) type anything here I wouldn't say to that person's face. I travel a lot and I've met a bunch of really nice Pelicans. Can't think of one less than great experience.

sscates 10-26-2010 05:14 PM

I've frequented quite a few board over the last 7 years, this one the most. You can see I'm not a "regular" by my post count on here, but this board is by far the most civil of all that I've been on.

The most entertaining would be the powerboat forums, the most awkward are the Bimmer forums (huge identity crisis).

I have always kept the comments as if I were standing next to the person or people that I was directing the comment to. Funny how the forums have a way of bringing out the best/worst of a person.

I've done quite a bit of research regarding business acquantances and customers and found them on boards saying the strangest things.
