Really? I grew up here also and went to high school about 2-3 miles from Hollywood. I also do a lots of work there now but up in the northern section where the wealthy folks are. Have you try walking south of Sunset or Santa Monica between Vermont or Western among those apartments after dark? Do you remember seeing the Drug dealers and the hookers? If you don't remember seeing any of that, then you have no idea what you are talking about. It is much better now then it was 5-6 years ago.

I remember in the 70's and 80's. On Hollywood Blvd you had legions of runaways kids, lots of drugged crazies, but just petty crime. On Sunset you had to run a gaunlet of hookers from Loz Feliz to Beverly Hills. If you stopped for any reason, you had 2 or 3 at your windows. But a high danger area? Not for 20 years at least. Unpleasant, distrubing and dirty, yes. But not a high risk of violent crime. Look at the statistics. If you think Hollywood is dangerous now or in the near past, then try to visit the slums of South America or Asia and Africa. There are some highly exicting places in the world, but Hollywood is not one of them. |

Unbridled fear is nothing to boast about.
the fearful don't live in hollywood through a riot and two earthquakes. the fearful move to france where they can be among their own kind. and then they post long fairytales about their personal bravery. |

amazing story. was surprised to see a bear awake this late, he missed out on a hell of bedtime snack. |

I lived in and was in 2 riots in LA, the 1993 and 1965. I have lived in LA for at least a half a dozen major quakes. And I do not have the fear of something different that prevents me from living in multiple countries. I am human, I do live among my own kind, doofus. And I don't post"long fairytales about their personal bravery" living in the safest place to experience a earthquake in America (!), or in one of the safest places from violent crime in LA (!), or how doing such pansy crap counts as bravery (!). That's the BS you post.:eek: |

Oh, Richard, it's just so cute when you do your pompous AND angry thing. Especially when you throw in a bunch of these::eek:   SmileWavy
And thanks for sending an interesting thread to hell because of your crush on OJU. |

It is a shame when BS presented as facts are accepted instead of questioned. But it is cute see you support shameless BS instead of facts supported by others on this thread. Are you saying you have not learned anything of value from the back and forth of this discussion? Then you're the idiot that some village has lost. SmileWavy |
You, sir, are a legend in your own mind. Bugger off.

In all fairness, it was OJU and his mancrush on Richard that started the childish fight in post #11, even before RPKESQ was even in this thread. Unprovoked and enough to warrant some moderator action IMO Credit where credit's due... But you are right, yet another interesting thread ruined... Quote:

Warning, graphic photos: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1288711964.jpg You thot I was gonna post the other one, didn't you? |
I don't think I would ever have to shoot a bear. I see no reason to be in his home and I see no reason for him to be in mine!
But seriously, a full grown monster like that charging full-bore, you have only a few seconds to react, take aim and fire. I would think that if you had ice water in your veins and a dead eye and a high powered rifle then a shot in the face might just drop him, either that or just below the chin into his chest cavity should right? I mean we are talking about a flesh and blood animal, granted one heck of a beast but still mortal! |
now for those of us that do deal with WILD LAND REALITY on a regular basis and realize that wild carnivores dont read PPOT nor other fairy tales, ya just cant have ENOUGH FIREPOWER EVER when its up close and personal.

The Seward Phoenix LOG - Bear attacks boy walking to bus stop A 12-year-old Seward boy was attacked by a brown bear while walking to school this morning. According to Alaska State Wildlife Enforcement Trooper Marc Cloward, the boy was walking to the bus stop early Tuesday morning. Although it was dark, when he heard a noise, he wasn't too concerned. "He's thinking that the sound he's hearing is rain and snow falling off the trees," Cloward said. It wasn't, though. "He looks over and sees a sow and cubs and he's already too close," Cloward said. The boy began to back away, but the sow growled and huffed and rushed, knocking him to the ground. The boy screamed and wiggled, until he remembered what he had been told to do in case of a bear attack. So he made himself go limp. He played dead as the bear ripped and bit at the backback he wore across his back. According to Cloward's estimates, the backpack absorbed the brunt of the attack. The boy was taken to Providence Seward Medical Center, where he was examined and released to the care of his parents, according to Alaska State Troopers. "I was impressed by how mature he was," Cloward said. "He said to me during the interview, 'I think she was just as scared as I was. She just wanted to get her cubs and get out of there.'" The attack happened on Bear Lake Road near the fish weir. "It's kind of a bear thoroughfare there," Cloward said. "They're passing through, feeding and making a living." Cloward tracked the bear about a half mile toward the mountains. He's unsure if it will return to the area. If it does, it will have to be dispatched, according to Soldotna Fish & Game biologist Jeff Selinger. "If a bear makes contact and we can identify it as the bear, it's time to put that bear down," he said. Alaska Fish and Game Soldotna wildlife technician Larry Lewis was a little more forceful. "The bear stepped over the line," he said. "It's a public safety issue now. People come first." If the bear is dispatched, the cubs will be also, since placement could not be found. |
