996 TT's are beautiful cars in person. But in photographs it doesn't come out well. You have to be moving around the car to take it in, not just looking at a still.

997TT is just about perfect for a modern car to me. Ebay also has $35K 996TTs for $35K. If that car was twice that price it would still be a steal IMHO.

I have a $HITbox 96 Subie Impreza Outback that is a tank for the Buffalo winters-simply amazing in the snow with my Blizzaks. However, it has more rust than metal at this point I fear. The engine is still super solid at 280K miles though. I wonder if when it finally dies I should get a 996 C4. Soon enough I could trade the 951???

Insane. And it has the good (GT3) engine.

My next 911 will most likely be a 996TT. I really like how they drive, andthey made enough of them that I could drive it all year long and not even worry about the value dropping. They are a HELL of a lot of car for the money, and if you get the modding bug, they respond very well.

Hmmm, anyone want a 964T??

Bsiple,

How much for the 964 T?

I have eyed the 996 Turbo for a while. I still can't get over the headlights. If I spend $40k on a car, it better look perfect to me. It may have to be another 5 years and another $10k to wait for the 997 Turbo.

I was just thinking about something...

There are a lot of smoking deals on formerly expensive sports and/or luxury cars right now. Another car I would consider if spending ~$40k would be an AMG MB, maybe an SL55 or something. They must be dirt-cheap compared to their new price, right?

Yup, sure enough they are cheaper than dirt w/ a few miles on them. This was a $140k car, now in the $20s:

Mercedes-Benz : SL-Class: eBay Motors (item 260686318012 end time Nov-08-10 11:41:16 PST)

The thing is, I'd be a little leary of the Benz w/ miles on it that had been driven hard but I would not hesitate for a second on a 996 turbo or 997S w/ high miles. They don't break. I'd love to find either one of those two Porsches w/ high miles and some cosmetic scrapes and dings for cheap. To me, there is something extra cool and racy about a 911 w/ some battle scars on it. Sort of works against the foo-foo image that a lot of today's owners project, IMO.

500 silky-smooth Stuttgart ponies w/ the windows down on one of these warm nights would be the shizzle, that's all I'm sayin'...

My dad recently bought a used SL55 in really nice condition for the low 30s. He really enjoys the car even though it's for his wife.

Now that I have a little munchkin I would look at a 996, my heart lies with a GT3 even though my wallet doesn't.

Porsche : 911: eBay Motors (item 130450016872 end time Nov-05-10 09:37:11 PDT)

This Ebay auction for a 2000 996 with under 100K miles closes in about an hour. No reserve, located in CA. Current bid $14,686.

Later that same morning: Wow... closed at $14,686. Seems like a deal if it has no major issues.

Wow, really good price on that car.

Notice however, with the shot of the guages with the key on and engine off, there are a few lamps not on for the bulb check- wiper fluid and airbag light should come on, I guess they are burnt out.

I hate myself sometimes for noticing such things.

Well, actually, the only light out that should be there is the "fasten seatbelt" light. I went to my car and stuck the key in the ignition and turned it to run. All of the lights came on initially, but after about 30 seconds many of them extinguished. I took a picture of my dash lights at that point and compared it to the car above. The only light not on in that car that should be is the seatbelt light. Maybe it's burned out.

Is there a chance he had seat belt on while taking picture?

Definitely a good deal. Not the world's greatest resale color, though.
