Eugene OR -places to eat, things to do???
Wifey lives in Portland OR... her family is in Medford OR... so I have been doing some OR road trips.
Eugene is just about the halfway point between the two, so I'm thinking it might be a good place to stop, stretch our legs, grab a bite. Any ideas? Good grub?

it depends on what you like - Skinner's Mud Hole has a huge diversity of activities & eateries; not so much as PDX in absolute terms, but higher on a per capita basis
from vegan (both low cost & high end) to BBQ from the largest alternative lifestyle faire to the Oregon Bach festival much live theatre (including in the streets for free) from old VW Buses (highest density in the world) to Fcar mechanics and a race team & off-road shops from a Jewish Deli to Palestinian-run place & Syrian Foods in a Mexican Supermercado best high end eats: Marche - 5th St. Public Market Belly - across 5th St. Rabbit (south Eugene) Red Agave - near train station; Latin/ So. Amer. type food Humble Beagle - So. Eugene, good price / performance not all open for lunch - many food carts & a couple of mobile food trucks (VW Bay window vans) BioFuels place right on I-5 has local chocolate place's baked items & more deli type foods many bars with microbrews on tap (hard to get in on Duck football days) wine tastings micro-distilleries some good wineries near here, but not as good as near PDX Email me & we can get together, depending on when you pass thru |

Nothing near the freeway...but the little burg of Coburg has the "Coburg Inn"...it was a good place some years back. Not sure these days. Keep meaning to give it a try, but never get around to it. You'll find the Coburg exit just North of Eugene on I-5.
Evidently, you'll love their beer cheese soup: Coburg Inn -1877 Beer Cheese Soup Recipe from Sue Be VERY careful driving in or even past Coburg on I-5...the city government is funded by traffic tickets. It's a very notorious speed trap area. I would strongly suggest checking the Ducks football game schedule, and avoid I-5 between Portland & Eugene unless the game is playing. Before & after the game is a traffic mess.

Yes, got trapped in a duck traffic jam once already.
Sounds like the 5th street market might be a good place to walk around (weather permitting) and find some good food? Edit; Quick google map looks like get off 5 on Franklin/126 and that will turn into Brodway and dump right into downtown? Or better to take 5 to 105 to Coburg?

We go through Eugene regularly, and always try to stop at Ta Ra Rin Thai restaurant on Oak Street. The food is really excellent—and consistently excellent—and the prices modest. Recommend this highly.
