My $14000 Month
So,
In the last 3.5 weeks: $9,200 for a new home A/C. (The only burned up, and then filled the entire house with smoke). The silver lining.....we found out what rooms got enough air. And there is a $1500 tax credit. New Dishwasher, Microwave, Washer and Dryer. Oh, and about 2 months ago a new fridge. All of these items were within 1-2 months of being just over 10years old. All of them either completely broke or needed a major repair. Is this the new norm.....10 years. Oh yeah and in june a new mattress! That was all of my saved up Porsche money.......I question if having a house is worth it anymore. So since June: $18000 dammit! Anyone else ever have this type of pain?

Yeah, but it's been my pets.
Probably out $5-6k between two cats this year. And they are both over 10.

Our oven just quit and my wife is shopping as I type this for a new:
stove/oven dishwasher fridge and a microwave. You know how it is, they all have to match and be replaced in a group... For the record I just made the last payment on our bathroom renovation two weeks ago. I was hoping to get a month or two off.

I'm building a kitchen from scratch right now actually. Earlier this year I rebuilt the main bathroom. When we sell we should come out alright at least but man it is no fun writing those checks.

Used microwave (combined, exhaust fan and light for my stove) $25
Used Bosch dishwasher $125 Stove repair $150 And a furnace last January $3,500. That's my last year. I suspect our appliances will lats ten years max from now on. They are too complicated. |

Such a joy to spend on stuff that isn't fun.
Part of life.

Waiting on refrigerator repair guy now. Its a GE Monogram. Top of the line POS. Need to go pick up some parts for the GE double oven. Found out its cheaper to repair the crap than let wife buy a new kitchen. Right at 8 years old. Already changed out two dishwashers and one microwave.

Sorry, from the title I thought your were making $14,000/month and I was curious how you did it. Now, to spend $14,000 a month I can do that too

It's so easy to spend. Making it is the trick.
Seriously tho, stuff happens when you least expect it. Having a savings account for emergencies softens the blow.

I closed on my new house on April 15 and wrote a $6200 check to the IRS that day too. Then I bought appliances. That was a very expensive week.

Lets see now Dryer is 23 years old, Washing machine is 14 years old, Refer has just had its 20th B Day, Stereo Equipment is 32 years old, TV in Bd Rm is 24 years old, Truck is 12 years old. Computer is 6 years old. Dog just turned 7 this month.
Seriousily...you can buy relativily new major appliances at auction or used applance shops, consignment shops and estate sale...FOR CHEAP Furniture..Estate auctions... Sofas and such...if you know where to look in town can be made CHEAP... Swiming Pools...I can do one for less than 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a Contractor. There are amazinging simple to do. Just takes a bit O your time and effort...on say an 80 Grand pool, probably could do it for 35K..to 45K So the question is saving 35K worth your time and effort? Remember when you go to sell the place Pools appraise generally at 1/2 VALUE.. In your hood a pool is a pool is a pool no matter if it is a simple Lap pool or a Water World Extravanganza that cost 120K...your still only gona get 25K for it on the appraisal. The thing is an appraiser can not peer into every backyard to see what kind of pool it is when he does his appraisal. He has to attach a figure to a pool sight unseen in his comps..if you have a super delux he might say this is above average and give you a fractional bump.
