Having Crohn's Disease means you get to do this every year, yeah!

The prep my doc gives me is Go-Lytely, this crap tastes awful. The hardest part for me is holding this stuff down. The last time I had it (in hospital) my nurse gave me a fruit drink powder to mix in, that with some ginger ale helped.

I usually get a colonoscopy and an endoscopy at the same time, yeah!

I think everyone over 40 should get a colonoscopy every few years.

Good Luck

I'll add to get your prostate checked as well. Got a good friend since high school that was diagnosed with prostrate cancer at age 49 or so. At a physical a few years ago, his Dr said his PSA was elevated but not to worry about it. Couple of years later, PSA was very high and Dr was like we better get this checked out asap! Been going through some experimental chemo and other stuff to get rid of it. My buddy said he should have another Dr take a look the first time.

Now with that being said.......

You guys that have a family history of colon cancer that are waiting until you are 50 y.o. before your test are LETTING A TICKING CANCER BOMB GROW INSIDE YOU. YOU ARE STUPID AND ONE OF YOU WILL DIE BECAUSE OF IT. My story.....

I was thirty three (33) and went to get a physical at my doctor. My first real physical. I had recently gotten married and we wanted to start a family so my wife said it was a good time. Our insurance covered it so why not. So during the exam the young Doc asked if I had any family history of problems of any kind. I told him my dad had colon cancer and so had an uncle and aunt. He said it's never to early to get a stool sample and check for blood. He gives me a little kit to take home and I'm to bring it back in a day or so. It's easy and simple, no problem. I take it in and the office calls back and the Doc wants me to do it again to double check because they found something the first time. I do it again and once again they find blood. He tells me to get a colonoscopy. I do and they find a very small tumor just beginning to develop. I have it removed and all is good. If I had not had that physical and that young Doc had not asked about my family history I would not have made it to my 50th birthday or even my 40th. I have told my story to several Doctors over the years and they have all agreed that that Doc saved my life. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE 50 IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY HISTORY OF COLON CANCER. I have had about 10 colonoscopies since my colon re-section in 1994. Being on the toilet for a day is a small price to pay for a normal life.

What Paul said.

I have seen plenty of old heads(and a few not so old) go down from colon or prostate cancer. I remember one guy had prostate with metastases to his pelvis and spine, took him a year and a half to die. I would go out and see him at his house, because it hurt him so bad to move he could not get out of bed. He was a nice old man, his wife was a great lady, calm strength about her that can't adequately be put into words.

Do it for your families guys.

Hope everything went all right for you 126coupe-

mine was uneventful except for the self administered colon blow Koolaide drink I choked down last night. I attained lift off. For a brief time span I should have been connected to a hydroelectric generator so I could power the neighborhood.

"The Procedure" was great cause just before I was put under I asked the Doc about the Endoscopy I was to have a week or so later and he said I could just sign something and order it as a 3 minute dessert if I wanted to. I signed the paper and then slipped off into a drug induced sleep while my internals were probed and then the camera was cleaned off during the Endoscopy.

Nothing found which is good but it didn't shed any light on what ails me

There have been some absolutely hilarious odes to the colonoscopy posted here, a truly entertaining read. highbrow toilet humor.

Regards

Hope all went well. i had my 1st scope done almost 2 years ago and I have another scheduled for January because the Dr found and removed 2 small polyps. Family HX of colon cancer, so after this 2nd scope, it will be 5 years until my 3rd.

I've had a few of these over the last 20 years.

Used to be you had to drink gallons of stuff.

Last couple of times it was just one glass of stuff that tasted like Kool Aid. So progress has been made on this front.

Calling to schedule mine. My older brother was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the age of 45. Passed away year and half later. Not something to ignore.

Mark, I have a good friend of 26 years who was diagnosed with Crohn's 15 years ago and has the procedure done on a regular basis. He's under excellent care from Scripps, a world class med. facility. Can you post the name of that stuff? Sure sounds like it would make the poor guy's life a bit easier (I think he may have this procedure done more than annually).

Gorschwabble glemmik.

Not sure what the name is. Clinic where I get this done is in Germany. Also the scope is tiny these days. Just a few years ago it was the size of a garden hose.

As someone else said, there is no excuse not to get this done. It's a routine and essential procedure.

When I had mine last year they had about 15 feet of black hose coiled up ready to use. I sort of remember waking up during it and looking at the view screen but it was really fuzzy.
