What to do about ruined tire

I went tp les scwabb today to have two tires fixed the first one had a lleak but was beyond repair so ended up buying a new one.
The other one needed a new valve stem was a very good Goodyear on my 930. When I went to pick it up I noticed it wasn't the same tire!! Was a different brand and size!!! They said that when the broke the bead it ruined the tire. The tire has about 8/32tread left (4/32 for new). I'm insisting the exact same size brand Or two new tires am I off base on this?? What would you guys insist on?

You can't mix and match tires like that on something like a 930. I'd insist on a match or an ass whupping.

I have two bent wheels on my Mazda. Found some replacement wheels and took them to my local tire shop. They strongly suggested I finish off the tires on the bent wheels. Their experience is that dismounting/remounting used low profile tires frequently results in damaged beads. He said he would go ahead if I insisted, but they wouldn't be responsible should the bead come apart in the process.

Sounds reasonable, assuming that tire is still available. They should reimburse you to have the tire shaved down to 8/32, too.

Last time I got tires on the 911, the tire place insisted that I monitor the whole process. "You Porsche owners are a finnicky bunch...we'd rather you observe just to be safe."

talk to the Manager. Mention that you want to be treated the way Les Schwab would have treated you if he was still alive.

I've always found them to be a class operation.

How old was the tire? Did you see the damage, or did they toss it?

What was the date on the ruined tire?
Regardless of tread remaining if it were an older tire 7+ years I would not expect anything.

It sounds like the tire had some age on it. They can look fine on the outside and have a bead that comes apart from installing or removing the tire. There's nothing the installer can do about that.

You need 4 tires that match, not just two. It sounds like you need to buy a set of tires. The only thing I can criticize the shop for is not asking you what you wanted to do when the problem occurred.

Tires can degrade ontheinside as stated above.
But absolutely insist on matching tires, If you have to pay the difference so be it.

Only went to a tire shop once, The guy was going to use an impact to put the lugs back on and I told him I would be REALLY PISSED if he did that. He decided to use the torque wrench tot the specified ft/lbs.

How can a tire shop be so stupid as to put on a different size and manufacturer, especially when you just bought one new one? Did they run out of stock or are they trying to charge for a more expensive tire. Are the two new tires on the same end of the car or is one in front and one on the back, not that it makes any difference in what they need to do. My opinion, they need to be same size, same speed rating and same manufacturer and if possible same manufacturer on all four corners.

Notwithstanding they installed a different brand/size tire to replace the one they damaged (shady, sloppy or both), I'd suggest they provide, at a substantial discount, another tire to match the new one you purchased. In any case, they owe you restitution; 1/2 worn? Half off of a new tire seems fair.

BTW, it seems you have the tread depth transposed.
