Notebook advice?

The other computer thread got me to thinking I should start a thread for notebook recommendations. I can spend about 400. Mainly for documents and Internet. No games or DVD needed but the DVD could be useful at times (travel). I seem to think and believe that all such devices should have 3 USB's and a fire wire.

We've got a few of the Acer Aspires here in hte office for checkout to faculty, they do well and work well.

Get an external USB drive, or pre-plan and rip the movies you want and store on hte hard drive.

Another vote for an Acer. My aspire has worked great for a year. Battery life is a little short and havn't found a bigger one.
Chech out newegg for prices.

Stay away from HP. I have a mini 210. Has to be the slowest computer ever. I also have a IBM think pad that i love.

Notebook screens are very small and you end up scrolling all over the place when you use the4 browser. Are you sure you really want one of those? You can buy a nice used Dell laptop on eBay for $400 or less every day...

He asked about notebooks. Not netbooks. I have a netbook and they suck. The Acer Aspire ones have a nonreplaceable HD.

Most of the computer co make a 14" laptop in the 4-500 range.

I think you are thinking of netbooks. AFAIK, "notebook" is synonymous with "laptop". Either way, I've had good results with Dell Latitudes. They are geared more for biz use, without all of the pre-loaded junk. If you need something with more power, their XPS 15 & 17 would fit the bill nicely with the Core i7.
