Andy Irons memorial celibration

I know there are some members of the surf tribe and others here that took note of the untimely passing of Andy Irons.
Well yesterday there was an amazing gathering at Hanalei Bay to celebrate the life and accomplishments of A I.
Thousands showed up on a beautiful day at pinetrees Andy''s home break, and site of His and Brother Bruce's annual keiki surf contest. Just one of the many ways they had found to give back, since reaching the pinnacle of success both have found in the pro world of surfing.
I will refer those of you that are interested to know more about this day to the coverage at The Garden Island news Paper. Just Google them and look at Monday and Sunday stories for the details

It was a moving day, with a massive paddle out. Both here and at spots around the world
Some likened the scene to that of the passing of Duke Kahanamokuu.

Here are a few pics I took today driving thru Hanalei. The bridge entering Hanalei.

A few of the many signs of love and support to be seen all along the North Shore.

And a reminder this morning that life goes on

I remember crossing that bridge to surf Pinetrees a few years ago. So sad...if I only had a 1/10th his talent. BTW...I don't know if its all the time, but the current there was horrendous...constantly being pushed off the peak...like Snapper in Oz. I'm used to the bottom of Cali...where you paddle straight out and sit. RIP A.I. such a gentleman and competitor.

The day he died, Maverick's here in Half Moon Bay was breaking with 30-foot waves. Very rare for November 2.

Thanks for the photos. I know that bridge - have driven it a few times on my trips to Kauai. I body boarded one of the reefs in Hanalei Bay on a 4-6' day. Was potent stuff and I'll never forget paddling out with sea turtles next to me. God Speed AI.
