I got my latest Springfield 1911 in a parking lot last week. No paperwork, no prints, no state involvement, no FFL fees. Other guy and I did show each other our AZ DL's and CCW's. Not required, but better safe than sorry.

Now you have to wear gloves for your next 'job'.

But seriously, if you are worried about smoking an ex wife or hooker. Just buy the same caliber gun black market. That way when they suspect you, and you know they will. Just produce the registered one and you will be fine.
It won't smell like powder, ballistics won't match and you'll be home free.
In fact, taken off the list.

Not saying I've done this, but.....

Doesn't every HANDGUN purchase have to go through an FFL? No cash and carry on handguns I thought, Federal Law...

Not at all. This is only the case when buyer and seller are residents of different states or in those Communist states that require it. Face-face, non-FFL transactions are perfectly legal in most states.

Auctions/estate sales gentlemen - now get out there and look.

My two most recent purchases: A Winchester 30/30 lever action (circa 1981)
and a Taurus .40 Cal Pistol, NIB never fired, with 2 spare mags. Write a check or hand over the cash - end of transaction.

Paid LESS that $300 for each. * Don't hate me.

A modern fable: Once there was a man that had a FFL. He bought guns for his own collection and for friends for many years. He kept all the proper paperwork.
Life was good.

Then along came the Brady Bill, Bill Clinton and a 'crackdown' on FFL holders. To keep your FFL you had to disclose so much information that you basically designed a plan to be robbed.
Life got bad.

When relinquishing his FFL the man gathered all the forms to be mailed to the ATF and ...shredded them. He then wrote a generic letter to the ATF about some obscure question and sent it via registered mail (thus producing a dated PO receipt).
Life was good again.

The modern moral? Government registration: F'ck em!

I know a man like that.
Didn't think of the obscure question though, nice touch.

Safety test? Do states have these? Why can't we have tests to let people vote too?

I took my test in a local shop. All of the answers are posted if you know where to look. It's a joke.

It's a bunch of questions that a 14 year old should be able to pass.

I do belive we should have a test before being allowed to vote, but the discusion would be PARF'ed!

In a few of my CCW classes the instructors have said that no one fails! They might ask idiots to leave. And they won't rubber stamp you. But they'll make sure you pass and give you all the coaching you need. In my NV class the instructor even had some 12" long .22 revolver for someone to use on the range qual. if necessary. Scary stuff. But then we make the drivers license test cater to the lowest common denominator too and cars are a lot more deadly than guns.

i was thinking TEXAS while standing in California. i answered 18. WRONG!

And what the hell does this have to do with teaching someone about handguns? Since all handgun buyers have to go through an FFL in KA, there's no chance of someone buying one by accident while underage. This reminds me of being asked on my drivers test what the penalty is for a second DUI. How does a correct answer prove I know how to operate a car?

I'm not envious of the Taurus, but that's a pretty sweet deal on the Winnie. I paid 600 for mine, but it's pristine.
