fuzzy license plates?
You've all seen it.
A car has it's plate blurred out in a picture. On the news, a video, an ad or online~ Can you really get the info on someone from an online data base? ![]() I have pictures of my car floating around with the plate right 'out there'. Need I worry, as I have nothing to hide? KT

I was just interested as why people block them out.
I never have. The plates are out in public all day, every day for all to see. Why blur them? KT

depends on who is "you"
I can, and for an Ore. plate so can several other types of people, child welfare officers, PIs, etc. I'm sure there are penalties for abuse of the privilege... I wouldn't worry too much about it. |

What's worse, is that there is a book published that is readilly available to the public that lists your name, your spouse's name if you're married, your home address, and telephone number. And it does this for everyone, listed alphabetically for easy access.
This book gets updated yearly by commercial enterprises who spend millions of dollars t make sure it's accurate and up to date. Then they distribute it free of charge. Scared yet? We call it the phone book. Yes, license plate information is generally public depending on the state. If you make enough effort you can obtain the name and address of the registered user. How this is dangerous to the registered owner I don't know. It's not as if our house numbers are secret so no one can find us. If someone sees your face, they can find out your name. With your name comes your address and probably phone number. I don't see the big deal.

What's the deal with the online sites that will supposedly give you info for a fee?

When posting pics of others' cars, I obscure their license plates to prevent future legal issues. If I go for a drive or meet up with another Pelican and post a pic of it online, the last thing I want is for the police to come knocking on his door with some citizen complaining that on that date a car with a similar description was seen speeding through the neighborhood. Might or might not have been the guy I met up with who committed the infraction. But I certainly don't want any picture I post to get him in trouble.
