Wow... small world

I've been working on my 87 944S and had the intake manifold off to do a number of things anyway since the factory coating is flaking off in some areas and bubbling in others I decided to get it cleaned up and powder coated. My friends dad who has a gorgeous triumph Tr6 recently had some parts coated for a pretty reasonable price at some place. So i swung by before work to drop it off, talked to a guy there for a while discussed the process, colors but when it came to stripping the old paint he brought in their guy who is in charge of removal and then they told me they couldn't because the media they use in their sand blasting process will spark the magnesium of the manifold and well they don't want to set their shop on fire.... they tell me to go find a place to strip it and bring it back.

So i leave, kind of annoyed that they can't do it all but oh well no big deal. Go to work and I hit up the trusty google search and find a place that's not to far which does soda blasting and some other stuff. After work I head on down to the place walk in and talk to the receptionist and she lets the shop know. After I grabbed my manifold from my truck I walk back in and a guy from the shop calls me back into the shop where I first saw the shell of an early 911 that was going through the cleaning process and show him the part and tell him what I want. He did look kind of familiar but i dismissed the thought until he asked me if he knew me and then asked my name and then he instantly recognized me.

It turns out that he was one of my dad's (who passed away last year) good friends (he's ex Oxnard pd) and it is his company! So we talk for a while and he shows me some examples of their work one of which was a 911 block. He tells me that they also do powder coating and so he fills out a work order and I put my info down and he tells me it's on him. I try to offer him something but he insists and he told m if I needed any other parts done just bring them in and he would take care of it. I was so grateful I couldn't believe it I still am way stoked and it was just a really emotional experience as I was really close with my dad and it kind of felt like he was helping me out with my pcar especially since it's his fault I love these things haha but don't tell him it's watercooled.

Great story, glad you had the boost.

Yes, it's a very small world.

good story. Some people in PARF don't seem to understand that it is a small, connected world.

For every one dork-jerk-a-zoid running around loose, there's probably a hundred good guys.

Glad you found one, even better that there's a pretty neat connection there. Turn business his way when you get the chance. Good guys deserve to keep afloat. Heck, they deserve to be AHEAD but let's just hope for "afloat" for now!

It is a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.

Love that line- just wanted to share it!

.
OK, small world again.

I grew up in Oxnard. All of the PD were patients of my father, whose office was on 'A' street, across the street from the PD on Second Street.

My grandfather was Chief of Police there for many years.

My father offered free dentistry to anyone who 'caught' me doing 'anything' when I was in High School. A broken tail light usually involved 3 or 4 units.

I had to go to L.A. County to have any fun....

Whoa! Oxnard's PD has always had a reputation - chock full o' liberals, MUCH worse than the Chewla Beasta barneys like the one whut busted ya fer rollin' a stop sign down there last May.

That's a great little story and I bet that the gentleman is getting as much from it as you, if not more. What I mean is that he's probably very happy to be doing it. I know how I feel about my good friends' kids.

Thanks for all the kind words and happy belated thanks-giving.

Yeah been trying to give recommendations to all my friends who would use a service like that. His business is doing good plenty of work. OPD is usually not bad I've only really been hassled a few times but oh well.

If I recall correctly though he left because he was tired of dealing with the egos.
