Boise State Kicker Grabs Pistol after game

UPI reports that the Boise State kicker that missed two field goals (one wide to the right, one to the left) allegedly grabbed a Police Officers pistol and attempted to shoot himself.

He is alive but under observation. The shot was wide to the right.....

Joe Bob 11-26-2010 11:26 PM

UNR did not beat Boise...Boise gave it away. But a win is a win.....UNR is in a 3 way WAC tie with Hawaii and Boise. One game to go.

Boise loses out on the Rose Bowl and it's slim chance at the National Championship.....

Sick joke...actually, I think he missed both to the left.

I was hoping to see a top team upset today...it wasn't Boise State I wanted to see lose. :(

Congratulations to Nevada for a well played game...they really cranked things up once Mo Mentum switched to their side. :D

repp 11-27-2010 12:09 AM

Nevada beat them.

I agree. Nevada played well....

Joe Bob 11-27-2010 07:54 AM

I guess you guys didn't watch much of the first half.....all year UNR has had a schizo defense. Plus, how do you let the fastest guy on the field get behind you when he's doubled teamed with 9 seconds left and a tie ball game?

He should have been buried on the line, and hung with washing on the run out.....

The kicker said the phoeey word and will probably be in therapy for the next year.

The fact that Boise didn't runaway with the score in the first half shows that they aren't the team the rating system thought they were.

McLovin 11-27-2010 09:00 AM

Those teams like Boise, Hawaii, etc. are a joke. They play nobody. Who cares if they get a bunch of meaningless wins against San Jose State, etc.? If Boise had to play Auburn's schedule, they'd have 4-5 losses and wouldn't even be a top 25 team.

Joe Bob 11-27-2010 09:17 AM

I agree.....when Boise, UNR and the other team, I forget who leave the WAC they are gonna finally see some competition.

No, they did not, no matter what your "emotional" side tells you.

You mean like the 2007 fiesta bowl when Boise st. beat Oklahoma?
Or 2010 fiesta bowl when Boise st. beat #4 ranked TCU?
Or like when Utah spanked Alabama in the 2009 sugar bowl?

The real joke here is LSU. All year long the clowns have been trying to figure out how to get a slightly above-average BCS team above the non-BCS teams.
They've been hyping LSU every week, trying to justify moving them up when it isn't justified at all.

What's the difference between LSU and Boise st?
Boise st. lost one close game IN TWO YEARS because their kicker missed two easy field goals.

LSU has won 4 games this year by flukes, trick plays, fake field goals, stoopid defensive penalties on the last play that had nothing to do with the outcome of the game, etc.
They've won 7 games this year by one touchdown or less! And you talk about a schedule, how about powerhouses as Vanderbilt, McNeese st., and UL-Monroe.

It's a coin toss, the luck of the draw that makes LSU over-ranked and Boise st. under-ranked.

pwd72s 11-27-2010 10:25 AM

Can not argue much here...other than I alway thought that the team with the most points did indeed "beat" the other team. Silly me.

I'm just pissed that the Ducks keep winning. Arrogant is about as strong a word I can use here...

Oh well, they can beat on the meager Beavers next Saturday. :(

Scooter 11-27-2010 10:58 AM

To come back the way Nevada did after a lousy first half, I have to give credit where credit is due.

Nevada beat Boise, plain and simple. They played a heck of a game.

Go duck's....

RWebb 11-27-2010 11:03 AM

Nevada beat Boise

and

LSU beat Alabama (and Alabama gave Auburn a hard time)

try not to get too emotional sammy.

RWebb 11-27-2010 11:07 AM

and on the topic of football - I hope you guys saw the "best smackdown of a defender by a QB" last week

IIRC, it was Stanford's QB (?) - he even paused after he crushed one guy into the grass* - kinda gave the impression he might tear the guy in half or kick him a few times; but then he decided to continue his run.

or grass like substance they use nowadays

Joe Bob 11-27-2010 11:37 AM

Yeah, but it didn't have to be that close.....Reno's defense stepped on their collective dicks.....

that auburn/alabama game was unbelievable.

the SEC teams really have a hard time making it to the National Championship game. They have FIVE teams in the top 15, and they beat each other up all season, and then in the SEC Championship game.

very tough for them. Would Oregon be undefeated if they had to play Auburn (2), LSU (5), Alabama (9), Arkansas (10) and S. Carolina (15) during their regular season? And then win the SEC Championship game, too? Maybe. But I think the odds are against it.

RWebb 11-27-2010 12:54 PM

Maybe.

As a loyal LSU fan, I definitely agree that the SEC is tough, very tough - always has been.

It was hell when Bear Bryant came to Baton Rouge too - GRRRR

Joe Bob 11-27-2010 04:34 PM

LSU.....snicker.....

LSU, It was just a matter of time. They just are not as good as people pretend they are.

I find it interesting that according to some football experts, when an SEC team loses to another SEC team, it's because the conference is so tough.
But when a PAC-10 team loses to another PAC-10 team, it's because the conference is so weak. Yet the PAC-10 consistently does very well in bowl games against other conferences.

Some fans should not be fans, they just don't understand and can't see the game clearly.

Joe Bob 11-27-2010 04:52 PM

Sore losers, too. That chickenshyt penalty on the kick reception towards the end of the game was uncalled for....

That's only b/c the PAC10 rarely plays the SEC in a bowl game. I don't know the full history, but I don't recall a pac10 team taking on an SEC team in a bowl in the last 10+ years.

craigster59 11-27-2010 09:49 PM

As a close friend of the Brotzman family, Kyle has been a key player in the wins (Fiesta Bowl vs. TCU) and unfortunately in the loss to Nevada. He's a good guy and a superb athlete.

Now he's learning the the lesson that along with fan adoration comes fan loathing. It's amazing how *****ty people can be when it comes to sports. And the suicide joke is in such poor f*king taste, I won't even comment.

Joe Bob 11-27-2010 09:59 PM

I apologize if the joke offended you....but....it's an old joke used by many comedians AND by print journalists in reference to kickers. I never mentioned the players name.

It was also exposed as a joke in the second line, was in a forum that was off topic AND in a car forum ONLY accessible by signed up members that has NO connection to sports......

If you feel you have a case, report the post to the admins and they can close it.

Otherwise, have a nice day.

Last I checked, the 4th amendment still applies.

Well, looking like it may happen this year...Beavers have slim to no chance of beating the Ducks next Saturday...and slim left town.

I hope you are right about the "superior" SEC...because I despise the Ducks!

I appreciate the apology Mike, I know we run loose here and I know you have a "no holds barred" sense of humor. It's just that he has recieved death threats, text messages and phone calls and there is even an 'RIP Kyle Brotzman" Facebook page. I guess the cyber world has made us all more vulnerable to negativity when things like this happen.

It all comes down to that it's just a game and most schools would be proud to have one loss in the standings.

Joe Bob 11-28-2010 10:10 AM

Bummer, didn't realize it was that bad. I usually can care less about College Football. I just moved to the area and caught the local fever. The game was the biggest thing to happen here, sportswise, in years....

Hope the kid gets thru it OK.

Joe Bob 11-28-2010 10:15 AM

Yikes....just looked at the sites. Pretty brutal, so much for "social" networking....

Absolutely. BSU is a really good team with a great QB. They can beat 1 or 2 quality teams every year but the rest of the schedule is SOFT.

They would be 6-4 if they played in the Pac 10. Worse in the SEC.

pwd72s 11-28-2010 10:38 AM

Speaking of the PAC 10...a column in today's (Salem) Statesman-Journal sports section suggests that the national title game will NOT be the Ducks vs. any SEC team. (It's a safe assumption that the Ducks will easily beat the Beavers in the civil war game.)

Why no SEC team? So that conference can be spared the humiliation of losing big time to the Ducks...and then SEC fans can claim the Ducks aren't a "real" national champ because they didn't play the SEC.

Gonna be interesting to see if this columnist's theory plays out..

McLovin 11-28-2010 10:48 AM

I like Boise State and what they've managed to build up as a football program is pretty incredible. Very hard for a minor conference team to become a National Champion contender. But rightly or wrongly, they are in the NC picture.

But IMO their incredibly weak schedule is a killer for them, and should almost make them ineligible to play in the NC game. I don't think it's their fault, like they are dodging quality opponents, it's just the conference they are in.

IMO they'd get whacked (pun intended) hard by an Oregon or Auburn.

Remember the last undefeated WAC team to play in a BCS Bowl game? Undefeated Hawaii played Georgia. Georgia didn't even win the SEC that year. Georgia smacked Hawaii 8 ways to Sunday, 41-10. It was a joke.

As far at the SEC - top to bottom - being the superior football conference, is there really any legitimate dispute as to that?!? C'mon, the numbers don't lie. On any basis - quality of teams top to bottom, number of teams consistently in the top 25, tradition and history, fan participation (aka craziness), attendance at games, etc. etc. etc. there is no conf. that comes close.

But an SEC/PAC10 showdown in this year's NC game would be awesome! I am a fan of the PAC10 and would root for Oregon. I think Oregon has some weaknesses and would be the underdog against Auburn, but certainly it would be a tough game to predict.

Finally, I wouldn't rule Oregon State out yet. Yeah, Oregon is going to be favored, but in rivalry games you never know. Esp. when Oregon State has absolutely nothing to lose, Oregon has everything to lose, and the game is at O State.

Yesterday's score in Palo Alto:

Stanford 38
Oregon State 0

Beavers played like they wanted to lose..no fire in their bellies at all, like a whipped team who knew their season was over. I'm a Beavers fan, but I expect to see the same this coming Saturday.

Hope I'm wrong...

repp 11-28-2010 11:26 AM

I do not see Oregun State rolling over and playing dead for my ducks it is the uncivil war and will bring out the best the beavers have to offer.
as we all know an angry beaver is a dangerous thing.

It's SO hard for a team to run the table in the SEC. Talent everywhere. Boise State should find a more competitive conference to join if they want to be taken seriously.

WAC to Mountain West? Really?

Joe Bob 11-28-2010 12:04 PM

Yup, UNR, Fresno and Boise....

HardDrive 11-28-2010 12:06 PM

Wish Michigan State was Rose Bowl bound. Ain't gonna happen.
