AZ bad? Try dealing with San Diego Court.... legaized extortion.
Can anyone verify that Chula Vista has not slid across the border, or into the sea?
Today I see that the Chief of Police there has been charged with writing bad checks. That 2 of the city commisioners have been charged with sweetheart deals with in-laws. The police officers on the street are getting in on the cash flow generation. OK, here goes.... On APRIL 5, I am in a HumVee with a 'shelter' in tow. It has 'Government Equiptment' in it. I am taking it to the 32nd Street Naval Surface Warfare Center to be loaded on a barge for San Clemente. Just germaine, not the real story. I am going thru Chula Vista, and stop at a stop sign. After stopping, a half block later, one of Chula Vista's finest comes up behind me, and does an anti-skid screeching slowdown, and lights me up. License, Reg, and Insurance. All in order. When I asked why I was being stopped, he said that "I had run the stop sign".... Both me and the passenger were thinking we had completely missed seeing a stop sign, it being midnight, and as anyone in a Hummer would know, the visibility is not that great. No, he said, that sign right back there. You mean the one we stopped at? He says we didn't COMPLETELY stop. Hmmmm. We exhange glances, and later both of us are sure we COMPLETELY stopped. He goes back to his car again, and comes back with ticket written out. Asks what is in the enclosed trailer. My REQUIRED response is "Government Equiptment". He asks again, I tell him my required response, and that if he wants to see in it, it will require a Marine detachment to open it. I can summon them, would he like that? No, not necessary. Sign here. I do, knowing no sense arguing with a liberal. Now the fun part. Since the 5th of APRIL, I have been trying to reach a real live human at any part of the courthouse in Chula Vista, kearny Mesa, or downtown SD. Unable. Voicemail says (in both official languages of California) that due to budget cuts, phone system is unable to take incoming calls, and hangs up immediately. Automated system does not have my info. No courtesy notice in mail. Court date approaching. recording says Courtesy notice is just that, nothing but a courtesy notice, not required. Lots of warnings while on hold about $300 admin fee assesment if you miss court date, plus jail and warrant and suspension of license. But NO WAY TO GET THRU! I am about to hire an attorney there to handle this. Don't even know how much, whether I can get a traffic school, nada. Legalized extortion. Anyone have a reccommendation for an attorney? I'd publish the so-called peace officer's name, except that it would come back to haunt me somehow. My DoD agency now ships everything thru North Island NAS, at greater cost to the Navy because the streets of Chula Vista now longer conform to the Constitution of the United States. The base CO is aware, and has said (today) he is powerless, the city has posted traffic bike cops (10 of them) all around the base exits for revenue enhancement, and he cannot do anything about it. Ideas? |

Call the Chula Vista PD and see what they say.
Chula Vista Police Department 315 4th Avenue Chula Vista, CA 91910 (619) 691-5137 Or visit the San Diego Superior Court web site. If you have your ticket you should be able to pay it online. SD Court Traffic About a year ago I got a rolling stop ticket a couple blocks from home. I slowed to a near stop and didn't see the PD car hiding around the corner. Fine was something like $280 plus an online payment fee of $10 or something to that effect. |

Just got back from a day trip to SD traffic court in Vista. (North county). I also could not get a human on the phone in multiple attempts, both the online and automated phone systems did not have my citation# in their system to allow me to get my automatic 30 day extension. So I had to drive down there.
I got a speeding ticket from CHP on the 5 freeway back in March when I was driving down to visit my dad in San Diego. Also no proof of insurance. I had valid insurance, just had not put the latest insurance card in that car. The *bail/fine* if I simply wanted to pay it and get on with life? $1158.00 ![]() ![]() It turned out that most of that amount was for the no insurance ticket and it got removed when I showed them proof that I was insured on that date for that car, something like $340.00 now for the speeding ticket. I'm going to fight it, got a court date today. The judge was actually very nice and professional. I've seen some real dipschit "pro tems" presiding over traffic court in L.A., those are just loser attorneys playing judge for the day. They take a 4-hour class or something. ![]() I did give a counter employee a piece of my mind regarding their (non) phone service. When she told me that they only had one person taking all calls for that court because of budget cuts, I asked her HTF can you have a budget deficit when a ticket like mine is $1157 and this place looks pretty fking busy today(?) ![]() That shut her ass up completely.

Find John Rogers on the board. He even posts once in a while here. He should know someone.
Herb Meeder would be my other "goto guy" since he lives in that general area. I do know one lawyer in San Diego, but I wouldn't have her represent my dog, if I had a dog.

Dave;
The website for the court is as dumb as the system. Nothing there after 7 weeks. Either the cop has not filed his paperwork (and won't until the last moment) in order to force me to return to appear, or the system really is that bad. I'll try to phone the police department, but I suspect they have their hands full defending their own from corruption charges. Hard to believe this kind of stuff happens outside of the third world. Yes, I know it LOOKS like the third world there.... Denis. Sounds surprisingly similar. I suspect that I will have to have an attorney to represent me. Public defenders' office says they can only take the case if apppointed by the court. They have a 9 month backlog. Last edited by fingpilot; 05-15-2010 at 01:05 AM.. |

This kind of stuff used to happen near Camp Lejeune. Once the commanding general put the City of Jacksonville off limits, it only took two weeks for things to settle down. The CO should meet with City Fathers and possibly local retired military and threaten to do it. I'd love to see that crap. And yes it happens all the time.

Hi James, thanks for the recommendation but I haven't needed an attorney in the 40+ years I have lived here. I guess it is because that when I would even take the race car on test runs with the numbers and such on it I made sure to never ever give the police the chance to stop me, including registration, proof of insurance and my license. I don't think we got all the story, was the Humvee a government vehicle or personal since the drug guys that are coming up from the south use them and Chevy Suburbans a lot so they are very closely watched. Was the trailer marked as government in anyway even a federal license plate possibly and finally why were you driving it through the city in the first place instead of using I-5 if you were coming up from the south maybe the helo base at I.B. or some other place? If you were coming from NV and driving down I-15 then the whole area around there is San Diego and not Chula Vista except for the 8th street gate which is National City. The exits at the 32nd street base have nearly the highest accident rate in the county and many years ago the base CO asked for traffic cameras and extra police patrols to cut down on accidents and gang related crime due to the gang bangers so it was not the local police eciding to do the beefed up enforcement on there own.
I know when I was in the Navy and the few times I drove off the base that I had the number to call if I got stopped and someone would make sure there were no issues and I would not get hammered. I am surprised you did not call anyone for assistance and try to get someone to help you get out of it right then. As for the ticket and fine in north county for the no insurance, that is a huge issue here and in all the border states and for example in Escondido there is a huge majority of illegals, they have NO license and NO insurance and it is driving the police crazy so EVERYONE that gets stopped has to show their proof of everything. The rate of uninsured drivers causing accidents is huge so the north county police are at a ZERO tolerance point now! As for me and my wife, we just make sure each vehicle has an insurance card in it and I always have my license with me. Most times I have my Ruger LCR but that is another matter. Dan, you a Marine at Camp Lejeune? I was there in 1971/72. I had my DB4 then and used to get stopped by the local sheriffs there at least once a week. They were sure I was a drug runner from Miami. Got some nasty comments about an 18 y/o with an Aston Martin. BTW, I bought it back then for the price of a new Pinto. But I sold it last year for the price of a new GT3.

Not me but my dad. He joined at the very tail end of WWII. But this happened during the full desegregation of the Military. Some parts of the country took it out on the troops.

1) You wouldn't have been in Chula Vista in the first place. 2) You would know that no part of 32nd St Naval Station abuts Chula Vista so it's unlikely they have ten bike cops posted around the base. I realize it must be frustrating trying to deal with the ticket from so far away but ranting about corruption and bad cops because you got busted running a stop sign is pretty juvenile. |

For someone, anyone, to tell him that he should not have been there as he was not driving the route YOU thought was best really surprises me. Jesus I hate Kalifornia.... and the fruits and nuts you run into there. Michael, I was based in SD back in the 1980's and CV was that way then, and has done nothing but get worse every time I stop back in the area. I would contact your POC on base and get an emergency number to call in the future as well as ask for the SOP on something like this. They might have a liason on base who can make this work for you this time and in the future. Joe A PS baring that we can stick your rear end back in an F-4 and give you a couple of runs at the area! ![]()

thanks Joe, I figured SoCal911T made enough of an a$$ of himself that I didn't need to highlight it. In the old days here, the help would have been without any trolling.

As I said in my 1st post, I don't believe we got the whole story about the traffic stop and it would appear that our original poster started the "trolling" by ranting and raving about the police. Having lived here for over 40 years I can not for the life of me figure out where the Humvee was coming from since there are no places in Chula Vista that would remotely involve shipping any trailers or other large government stuff. If the trailer was flown into Brown Field near the border then it is freeways all the way, if it is the port of San Diego, the southern most off load area is actually in National City but the land is controlled by San Diego. And finally as noted, there are NO parts of Chula Vista close to the 32nd Street Naval Station so any police are either National City or San Diego which own the streets right outside the base. I guess Joe from AZ didn't check a map either as he got confused too it seems and it was the National City police that had the bad reputation for hassles but then they tore all the bars down and put up hotels and strip malls so few Navy people go there unless they live there.
Anyways, it would be best if we had more details and the next time maybe if trailers are to be moved post a question of the best way to get around so any possible trouble points are avoided. I used to do that when going to L.A. so I would know what freeway exits to make sure to NEVER pull off even in an emergency of I'd be dead before the car stopped! |

Hey Michael,
Here we go again! Someone saying its your fault because you should not have been there or taken the wrong route! Will tell you, with help like this from people who know it all, we sure will get ahead in life! Joe (Who is now from AZ who used to live in that area, but who all of a sudden must be dumb because he moved, but returns every few months. )
