Kovalainen Knocked Unconscious In Scary Crash

Sorry if this is a repost. Happened at the RoC. His girlfriend was in the car with him.

Glad they were OK.

You gotta love the camera man and the announcer sticking their noses in there before the safety workers could even clear the junk off the car and survey the occupants for injury.

Those two would be black balled from any production company I ever owned.

Milt.
Don't be so hard on the cameramen. Thats their job and frankly what the Director is yelling in their ear to do.

Then the director needs to meet with the chief of safety and be told to stay out of the way while the situation is being assessed. I will say that I watched it again and may have mistook an official for an announcer. I really don't know who the one guy in the headphones dressed in black was.

However, if there had been a fire, that camera guy would have not only gotten burned, but possibly ruined an expensive piece of equipment. What also surprised me was that no one seemed to have Nomex on. Finally I saw a dry charge extinguisher which was apparently set down by the guy removing the barriers. I don't think any of the others that ran up were carrying extinguishers.

Not a good place to be if the driver is unconscious and can't hit the kill switch.

looks like a full sized slot car track.
it also looked like he was trying to setup to drift into the corner, but the car didn't slide.
I didn't see any suspension break, maybe it was just an excuse??

Oh wow, what a crash; he banged in to a few styrofoam barriers, give me a break. And he was going an amazing 20 MPH. Senna would have loved to trade his crash for this one.

The crash didn't look very scary. It looked pretty low-speed to me.

What is scary is that the suspension broke on the Audi doing such a low speed, low G maneuver and that the barriers were nothing more than big, plastic lane markers.

RR suspension was clearly broken. You can see it on the camera angle that's near head-on. The RR wheel has significant toe out, causing the crash.

What was truly scary must have been the course worker standing behind the outside barriers where the car's left rear made the big impact. Fortunately it was only flying plastic barrier he had to dodge.

Also impressive was how quickly Loeb, in the red car, came to a stop. Nice brakes.
