Got Seriously Lucky Today

I'm in Toronto this week for a TV Pilot. Going to the hotel from the airport, I figured out I overshot the hotel. Pulled into a parking lot to check my Iphone for directions, got out of the car to get a better signal. Traveled about 1 mile to hotel, walk up to reception and my wallet is GONE!! Not in baggage, not in rental car. I remembered having it when I rented the car. Drove back in a panic to the parking lot where I stopped and yes, it was lying there on the pavement. About 1/2 hour it was sitting there. Busy parking lot, but unlit. I'm not sure what I'd do without my wallet, driver's license and CC's. I'm not sure I could have even gotten my hotel room. The production company may have been able to cover me, but everything else? Wow!!

the 30 mil was won yesterday by two lucky ones but Hugh lucked out on that one!

I would keep one of your cc in your suitcase/shoe or somthing when travelling. I am sure some pelicans would have helped you out though.

Have a good week! Take Wilson back with you when you go too please.

Left my check book on top of the car and drove off. I was gone 2-3 hours when I looked for it. Came back and it was laying in the middle of a residential intersection at the corner from my house.

Couldn't believe that. It's not like it blended in.

Seriously, I travel a lot for work and this has never happened before. I'm always aware of where I am and what is around me. I have to be. I double and triple check rental cars and hotel rooms when I leave them. Too much stuff, phone, (wallet, duh) passport, computer, all that stuff. With jet lag you have to be extra diligent. 12 hours to Prague with a plane change in Germany and it's easy to miss something. If I'd actually lost my wallet for good, I'm not even sure who I'd call to cancel the CC's. I think I'll PDF them front and back and email them to myself and keep in a locked portion of my phone and computer, with a backup at home with the wifey. I do that with my Passport.

Good thinking, Hugh...we've photocopied all our cards, the numbers to call. Have them on file at home. Might be problematic if we were on the road, tho...

I seem to find 2 to 3 wallets a year just lying on the floor or in the street and always pick them up and check the driver's license to see if they live close-by. If they do, I'll swing by and drop it in their mailbox, if not, I'll just dump it at the nearest PO Box.

After doing this forever, I had the kind gesture reciprocated.

I was eating at a local deli facing the window over-looking my car parked on the street when a parking enforcement officer pulled up behind my car and got out. I ran outside thinking the meter had JUST run out and as I made my way over, saw that it had just happened and the 3-minute grace period that the meter gives had not ended yet. I turned to the parking enforcement and said "grace period" with a smile and went to grab some change out of the car. He hemmed and hawed, but I pleaded with him and eventually he told me to have a nice day and drove off.

I went home and was watching TV when 2 hours later the doorbell rang. I opened it and there was an older couple standing there and the husband was holding my wallet. I just stood there with a dumbfounded look on my face as he explained what had happened.

Apparently, in my haste to grab some change out of the car, the wallet had fallen out of my pocket and onto the sidewalk next to the deli where there is a Starbucks. The husband said he was sitting on the patio having a smoke while his wife was ordering and getting their coffees when he noticed my wallet on the sidewalk. He walked over, picked it up and saw that I lived in the same city. He punched my address into the navigation on his cell phone and decided to drop my wallet off, as it was on their way home.

I thanked them graciously and invited them inside for a drink and some food, but they refused and left.

There are still good people left in this world.

I had my wallet fall out of a seat bag on my bike.
I was on my way to buy a new helmet (crashed and broke the old one) and when I got to the shop, no wallet.
I back tracked the 10 km I rode to get there to no avail.
The next day a woman dropped it off at my parents house, I never expected to see it again.
There are good people out there.

In Canada many times you will get it back. I've found 3 over the years and 2 had a big wad of cash. Returned 2 of them, the other (out of town) I handed it into the cop shop. One guy with a wad wanted to give me a reward, I just said nope, I'd hope someone would do the same if it was me.

The wife lost hers a few years back, guy phoned us up and returned it cash intact, wife offered, but he said the same thing.

I had a co-worker lose his wallet one night after drinking. Cops called him the next morning. It was found that night just down the street from a murder and they wanted to talk to him. He had a bad habit of setting it on his toolbox and got his keys out as he got in his truck.

My son list his wallet and it was found by a small boy as he got out of his dads car. They called and my wife picked it up. Gave the boy a little reward for doing the right thing.

had my wallet stolen (was in g/f's purse and she left it on a slot machine) in Vegas, but luckily they didn't charge anything on the cc's yet. I was able to cancel (or put them on hold, rather, in case they show up in the next day or two) all of mine either online, or was able to get their phone number from their website to call to cancel. Hardest one was trying to cancel the g/f's debit card from Chase, as their phone lines aren't manned 24/7 and they don't give you an option to report it stolen. Pretty much called all their numbers (regardless of which section they belonged to, e.g. investments, commercial banking, etc) and finally got a person on the other end to cancel the card.

He just had the bad luck to have his wallet fall off his truck at the wrong place and we always got a laugh out of it.

Seems he always had a funny story like that.

I've left my car key in the driver's door lock multiple times for hours or overnight, (don't ask), on the street in front of my building. This is in a very densely-populated urban neighborhood in Los Angeles that is definitely not a crime-free zone, like Beverly Hills or something. Just luck that the wrong person's eye did not randomly scan that 4 square inches of google earth.

Maybe because I always return found wallets/dogs/purses/etc., but who knows?? Luck is weird stuff. It's everywhere, good and bad.
