Driver-quality Porsche:

At least that's what this owner does with it. My buddy's freshly restored '58 T-2 Speedster yesterday on the street:

I'd be paranoid....but to each his own. Beautiful car, but won't remain so long if used as a daily driver in Southern California....or anywhere else for that matter.

What if it's only driven on the roads of Istanbul? (someone had to say it)

Very nice ride. I'm thankful the guy isn't squilling it away.

I'd be a little nervous if the car was all original (original paint, etc.) Because a car surviving for 55 years and maintaining it's original paint, interior, etc. is pretty unusual and can't be duplicated.

But that's unlikely, it's probably been repainted/restored/redone several times in its life. If it's already been redone, then fixing it again if it gets pranged is no big deal. Just takes a little money.

I believe that's better than it being a car in the hands of certain people...

I am quite happy that the car will forever be out of the hands of a certain "gruppe" member who was angling to get it....to the point of having others befriend me in the hopes I'd sell to them, then he swoop in. Dumb piece of caca never thought that wouldn't get back to me...

Lotta truth there. A car is only original once.

Yep, it's a driver. I think I see some dirt on those floor mats.

Who said anything about it being a daily driver?? More like a weekend car that has to compete w/ a warehouse full of other iron for road time. The guy only has one set of hands and feet. Do you really thinlk that there is someone out there who can afford to buy a '58 speedster and have it restored like that who doesn't have another fking car?

Just say "nice car" or better yet, nothing. Didn't your mom ever teach you this?

I've got a secret: We're all going to be dead really soon. Who cares if the car stays new or perfect?

Ever seen a Porsche Parade concours? Evidently, a few folks care...

Yeah, and those are the people who are the most fun at a party.

"Stick a lump of coal up his ass and wait a couple weeks...VOILA! The Hope Diamond."

And yes, a "few folks" care. Very few. Even at a car event, (unless it's Pebble Beach or the like), most look at the concours display with a lot of weird curiosity. Ferry Porsche supposedly hated the concours crowd with a passion. He devoted his whole life to creating the best drivers' car and then some strange people bought them and instead of driving them, they kept them in a garage and cleaned the underside with Q-tips. Why not just have a picture of the car on the wall?

A few folks wash their hands 300 times a day as well. The point of this thread is to mention a fantastic car and an owner that actually understands the principle of enjoying life. If owning your beautiful 911S for 30+ years while driving it very little and cleaning it 2 or 3 hours for every hour driven made you happy, more power to you. I don't think that it did, based on your posts here. It seems to have made you miserable.

A Porsche should be driven. It is not some silly assed tempermental exotic sissy car. It is a driver's car and as such faces cruel punishment confined to a stationary existence.

So stop being a buncha meanies and take your cars for a drive!
