Schumi on here did... Reported getting that, a 50" and a logitech wheel. He also mentioned something about a lot of booze, so who knows what he'll think.

Got it, an the logitech wheel to go with it.

It is a nice game, but my initial position is that it's only marginally better than GT4 as far as driving fun goes.

Mildly disappointed that it took 5 years for this to come out....

Still worth the buy, however. I've just gotten up after a 6 hour marathon.

Is the pope catholic?

Our old steering wheel died, so a new Logitech G27 took its place. I haven't finished bolting it to the Playseat and tidying up the wiring, yet.

My son has more "track time" than me so far, but I should be able to form a better opinion over the weekend. So far, it seems fantastic. My son (9) was extolling the virtues of the Pagoni Zonda just now...

I was going to mention also that I haven't found it extraordinarily different/better (yet) compared to GT4. Maybe once I get deeper into "GT" mode, the differences will be more apparent.

I read that the new "crash damage" feature, or whatever they call it, is hardly noticeable. That's a shame; I think it would be cool to have the option of racing with the risk of true damage and even a DNF.

It's on my son's Christmas list, which is to say it's on my list.

Chris, that's a pretty sweet setup you have there. Tempting.......

Chris,

Been thinking about one of these rigs... Recommendations?

...I hear GT5 also supports 3D?

My buddy and I built the one on the left, and he slapped together another one so we can play head-to-head on Wednesday And Yes the one on the right has a carbon fiber back GT3 replica seat.

The game itself just seemed like the old one with some more cars in it. I never got used to the feel of GT4 and it was exactly same in the new one too.

The Playseat model I've got is a nice rig overall - comfortable and pretty stable/stiff, with a good range of adjustments. It is not good for kids or short people though - my 9 year old son can just now reach the pedals on the smallest adjustment settings and he still uses a cushion behind his back.

The current annoyance is the G27 pedals include a clutch pedal, and it's hard to get a comfortable position where you can use the gas and brake with the "steering column" between your legs. (I usually left-foot brake in games even though I don't in my real cars.) The screw mounts on the pedal base do not line up with the holes on my Playseat so I'll have to re-drill or mount it a different way. (Currently zip-tied). The steering wheel and paddle shifters feel much better than my old Logitech and the servos are quieter. I haven't really tried the conventional stick shift yet except I noticed it is linked with the clutch, so if you don't use the clutch you can't shift.

I believe the game does support 3D but I don't have a 3D TV or any near-term plans to get one, so can't comment on that...

Oh yeah, another irritation as you can see in the pic -- the USB data cable on the G27 is WAY too short for my layout. It needs another 2-3 feet.

I got a copy, have been putting in alot of seat time. The game is good. The driving dynamics are quite realistic and the graphics are awesome. That said, I am a little let down as some others have stated that a five year wait in development would bring something special. It doesn't seem so special, I thought Forza on xbox was really cool and gt5 may not eclipse it.

Does anyone know where the porsche cars are in the GT5? I haven't found any yet.

I didn't think Porsche had come to a licensing deal (again)? Earlier versions had Ruf cars but no Porsche-branded cars as I recall. It's a shame, especially seeing how many other marques are there, including Ferrari, BMW, Lotus, Lambo, etc...

Yeah, I've been playing it with my boys since Wednesday

It has a lot of fun features like the Top Gear challenges and Karts. Fun driving action, but...

The game is too Japanese for me. Too many crappy old Nissans nobody has heard of, driving on tracks nobody cares about. They have Laguna Seca, but no Infineon, Miller, VIR, etc. etc. Win a few races, and guess what your prize is? A 1958 Subaru, all 16HP of it.

I'm having a lot of fun with a tuned Stingray and saving credits for a gorgeous 993-derivitive Ruf that pops up in used cars occasionally. I'd prefer more euro-centric game with a lot of US tracks as well.

I hope there is a way to download or unlock other real-world tracks in the future as I definitely agree it would add to the appeal if we had a big set of well-known US tracks, or even less well-known ones. Imagine if you could add local tracks like Willow Springs, Buttonwillow, Fontana, Thunderhill etc. and also various old and new Porsche models. I would gladly pay a bit extra for that. The game engine infrastructure is all there so just incorporating more models/assets should not be hard or expensive relatively speaking.

Can't you get a USB extension cable? Should fix that problem.

I'd like to give it a spin but I don't have a PS3 and don't play enough to justify it. I would however like to make a playseat out of an old 944 seat. Any suggestions?

I really want to try this game as I have a PS3, but I'm afraid that $60 + another $100 for a steering wheel setup will be one of those purchases that I use a couple times and that's it...
