Just got a 1962 Mercedes 220S!

Just got her last night, it's in good shape, needs a little TLC... but drives like a dream...

Thx, this one is auto, I might take you up on the parts, the speedo is acting up and the odometer (trip reset) does not register, the other part of the odometer works though, that is a one unit, right? Do you have a web site with parts or just on demand?
Thanks again,
SZ

Nice.

Question. Since you are in Cali do you have to get it to a certain emissions level, or is it exempt? Does it have to meet the year it was manufactured standards?

Currently, cars that are '76 model year & older are exempt from emissions testing in CA.

That's a beautiful old Mercedes...good score!

It's 75 and older. 76s are required to be tested.

Interesting...so what does a guy do with a Benz like this? Garage queen or drive it...as it is clearly not a super collectible model but yet somewhat desirable due to age and rarity (condition seems good).

Had one..a 61 220s.. loved it! Only thing I can recall on the down side was the fact that it ate water pumps. Keep a spare around. Enjoy!

I drive her all the time... mainly around town, for now... until I sort her out. I just wanted something to keep me busy as the kids, wife, work, house, don't keep me busy enough! The thing I like about her is that I do stuff as I please and I can still driver her. Took the door panels out, cleaned up the inner door, used the rest of the soundproofing material from the 911 all around, greased up the window regulators, channels, locks, next will use the old carpet as a template to cut new one, was able to get her birth certificate, comes out she was made 5 years to the date before me... As far as the motor goes, after checking the numbers, it turns out there is a 66 230S up front, the stock 220S must have passed away long time ago. Compression is good, Webber makes a really nice dual carb kit, all I need is some different gears in the back (4.01 now to 3.69 from a 280SE), to make her a really 75-80 Mph cruiser with a top speed of about 120 for those who dare... lol
