so i didnt have time, and we took the car to dealership mechanic...

argghhh.! i didnt have a method to pressurize the darn cooling system on the subaru so we took it in. we have been smelling antifreeze in the car, and i couldnt find any leak..i honestly didnt know where to look. i was afraid the heater core was leaking.

the dealership promptly pressurized the system and found the thermostat housing was leaking! i didnt see it! the leak was tiny, and the housing is underneath the motor. well, they had the car and a commitment from us to pay the diagnostic fee, and the rest of the work wasnt that much $$..it still leaks! i took it back once and they hosed off all the residual coolant and promised it was just blowby from all the coolant sloshing about on the car panels. well. one week goes and it is still smelling. i see the leak!

would you take it back? i bet a better hose clamp would fix it. maybe even doubling them up on that hose. let them handle it? the leak is tiny, but it is dripping on the exhaust. TINY!

here is a pic.

If that hose is original, it's probably time for a change...new hose should seal fine with that clamp...unless the clamp is bad. Try new hose & clamps on both ends....

Edit...be sure hose fittings are clean & smooth...dip hose ends in hot (nearly boiling) water before install to soften them, to aid in installing...

Is it weeping out the edge/end of the hose? Looks like it.

Might want to talk to them about getting you money back and swapping out the hose and clamp yourself.

Take it back - it's a matter of principle.

People need to stand behind their work. Good people do. You'll sort out real quick who you are working with and use that as a barometer to determine any future business.

I hate dealerships. I doubt I'll ever own a new car again. I'd rather buy used than go to a dealership.

Really...the hose is probably flawed inside, a small crack or something....

If you paid them to fix it I would take it back, I used to work at a Ford Dealer in Irvine, I saw how bad they ripped everyone off, we still took our 2004 TBird there but only for warranty work, never anything else. Never take a car to a dealer unless it is warranty.

You could probably put a decent clamp (not that wire thing) on there without draining the coolant. I also think they are supposed to add a Subaru additive that is equivalent to Bars-leak for the head gaskets.

Vash,

Frame that picture and sell it in an art auction.

Take the money and fix the car with it.

I also never cared for those wire hose clamp and whenever possible I would switch them out with SS ones.

YMMV

WOW! fantastic customer service. since this was our THIRD visit, they really put forth the effort. he took my (our) advice and changed the lower hose out. two new clamps. he flushed the system.

i think it is finally good.

he didnt charge us one more penny!
