Thinking about getting a tattoo...

I'm thinking about getting a tattoo. Any ideas about what I should get and where? I'm thinking about getting a 3rd eye tattood on my forhead but am open to suggestions.

Anybody got any ideas?

For heavens sake, don't get any tribal BS. Those things are horrible. And do your research, and find an excellent tattoo artist. Any good tattoo artist will have an extensive portfolio, and come recommended from reviews on sites like yelp.com.

Get something meaningful to you. For my next one, I was thinking of getting the Piper Cub logo. My grandfather had a J-3 Cub, and I grew up flying around the fields of the midwest in it.

Didn't your momma teach you not to draw on yourself?

If you have something meaningful I could understand it..... But getting ink just for the sake of getting ink'd? Stupid...

No tattoo at all is the new hip tattoo.

They look like a murky blob 40 years later. No tats for me. Thought about getting one 40 years ago in the USMC, glad I didn't. But if you're my age go for it, you'll be dead before it looks like crap.

I've always wanted a tattoo. Of Myself. All over myself, only six inches taller. :D

Hads930 12-07-2010 08:41 PM

DON'T

I have two, the same two I want removed.

dhoward 12-07-2010 08:49 PM

Meh.
I have some.
Get one if you want to.
Go to a reputable shop, check their work.
Good, fine-line work doesn't turn to 'blobs'.

HardDrive 12-07-2010 08:51 PM

I don't regret my tattoos at all.

dhoward 12-07-2010 08:55 PM

Technology is a little different now boys...

Yep. My dad hates his. They are nearly 70 years old now.

Find some really ugly art - the type that NO ONE would hang on their wall - that seems the popular choice.

Porsche-O-Phile 12-07-2010 10:52 PM

I've never heard a good reason for getting one, but it's your skin...

I love the people (usually girls) who claim that getting a tat is a way to "express my individuality... just like all my friends"

You want a tattoo but don't know what or where??
Why don't you get 8 piercings while you're at it....

That's just not true. The dermis is dynamic. Cells grow, expand, contract, die and are consumed by neighbor cells. ALL tattoos lose sharpness over time. Has nothing to do with the quality of the ink or the artist.

A tattoo is like skywriting on your skin.

Bingo!

While we are on the subject, who knows a good, yet preferably 'small town' shop in Los Angeles? All the reviews for shops around here are for big name places that, I'm guessing, are mondo $$$$$. I need some simple stuff done.
