Spoons For Real Men

These are Spoons for real men and not for any sissi mommas Boyz. These are Spoons that say Point Four Five on the Barrels and will make any dimestore desperados f@ggoty little balls shrink up.

From the top... is a Colt pre-series 70 National Match that was made from 1959 to 1970. It features a pair of Colt Medallion Pachmeyer wrap around ruber grips, high polish Colt charcoal bluing, and just the last of the best Colts 1911's with a rock solid slide and snap in the trigger pull. . In the middle is an Ed Brown Custom Executive Carry which is his version of the Commander. Bobtailed magazine housing, 28 lines per inch checkering on the grip straps, Trijcon Night Sights and smooth rock solid slide function. Bottom is a Detonics Combat Master which was the first of the compact 1911's. While it isn't quite the same caliber of workmanship and function of the Colt or Brown it is good enugh.

Quality stuff...

I like the "Ed Brown Custom" the best. That bob tailed magazine housing looks the business.

Detonics Combat Master....... cool

I know you know this, but don't run too much of the full power stuff through the GC. Or, at least swap the recoil spring out to a full power spring if it doesn't already have one. That rear site could shear off with the lite spring and 230gr stuff.

Nice. Is there a function to the bobtail?

Love the comment made when someone asked "why do you carry a .45 auto" and the reply was: "they do not make a .46 auto!"

I love my 1911's, but they are too expensive to CCW. My latest loaded Springfield Champion is worth two of my SIG's.

Too expensive to carry? I don't understand.

Nice pieces.

How about a Wilson Combat .45? This is a rare gun that is the Supergrade version of the Professional. It's got a 4" bull barrel, checkering underneath the trigger guard, recessed & shortened slide stop, normal Supergrade serrations, Ed Brown Bobtail, all black on light weight frame, & full melt down.

Sorry about the phone pic...

If you ever have to use it, you are gonna lose it. You might get it back a year or more later after it's been jumbled around in an evidence locker and been marked up by the ballistics lab. Since most 1911's are highly customized and not cheap, they are not the best for CCW. First and foremost because any customized gun is going to make you look like a gun nut in front of a DA and jury. There's a well known case in AZ where a guy, who very justifiably shot a nutbag attacking him in the woods, spent seven years in the can, largely because his carry piece was a 1911 10mm and the DA was able to pick a super gun-ignorant jury (Coconino County) that thought such an oddball caliber meant the shooter was a gun nut and looking for a fight. And since not many 1911's are super accurate out of the box, a lot of them require some customization. I'd rather have a near stock SIG or Glock, which pretty much grow on trees, are in use by countless police agencies, can easily be shown to be a common self-defense-type gun and don't cost much to replace.

Thanks Rick.

Many good points that I was mostly not aware of, and just a few that I had forgotten. So I guess I should keep my LCP in my pocket and my 1911 for the range.

Best,
Tom

The Ed Brown is the only Commander sized custom whose slide travel equals the full sized version and is thus slightly more realiable. Ironically Brown says that all his spoons are equally accurate and the difference is in the cosmetics. He does give a slight push to the full sized units, but says it is negliable for all intents and purposes.

Brown also says he does outsourced work from other custom makers.

Another John Browning legacy. This was picked up yesterday for $499 plus shipping and receiving. It is a Browning HP (mdl 1935) made in Beligium from 1980 to 85. It is Hard Chromed version wt std Pachmeyer ruber grips. Me thinks it needs a good cleaning

Doesn't matter how big they are if you can't hit anything. And my freaking ears have been ringing ever since forgetting to replant my hearing protection at the range last week- some dude had a cannon that'd put those .45s to shame. Unfortunately, I had the opportunity to hear what it sounded like in an enclosed space without muffs.
