nice...very nice.
Fred Cook was kind enough to send me a magazine for my Colt that fits much better than the one that came with it. What a guy!!!
Fred is a good guy and a straight shooter.
There is a small area of pitting in the trigger frame (in front), so if the gun isn't too bad, I think I'd like to go for the rust bluing for this spoon.
Done.
The Remington Model 51 should arrive any day now. Wneh I get home on Thurs evening, I'll take pics of David's handiwork and post them. I'll take it and the "new to me" Colt 1903 Hammerless to the range on Saturday with my wife and daughter to try them out. Can't wait!!
I brushed it with RIG just wipe it down and go shoot it. It will piss RIG for a while but it will get in all those tight spots and protect it's new skin. You should have it tomorrow. Don't forget to put it back in yer book.
David,
Thanks, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm going to order some Rig grease from Brownell's. I saw some test results that compared Rig to many other products and tested their ability to resist rust and Rig was very impressive. I have some Militec-1 oil and grease to use up 1st. |
Brownells? The shipping will kill you. Any good gun shop should have rig.
I'll check at Gander Mtn (local sporting good/gun store), but they are pitiful when it comes to gun gear... I've checked the local shops and I know they will have it at Cabela's, but that's about 35 miles away from me...
only 35 miles? The nearest cabela's for me is in Wheeling WVA, about an hour and a half drive. Hell if I knew you wanted some I would have stuck some in the box I just shipped you. We have it at the shop.
Wow!
Wow! My wife (Beth) just called to tell me the Remington 51 arrived and she took it out of the box and took a few pics with her cellphone to hold me over until I get home tomorrow. She said it looks like new again!

I'll get the Colt out next week, probably a week from this Friday. Thank you so much!!! You're the best!! |
It will look much better when you (lovingly) wipe all the grease off it. I put it on with a paintbrush so it would suck it in good.
That was the plan with the rug. At you leisure Art. I have all the time in the world. I can't wait for you to see it for real. |
Remington Model 51 is back home!
Here are a few pics I took this evening. The gun is pretty oily as I'm taking it to the range in an hour or so. The gun is beautiful and pictures really don't do the gun justice... looks just like black chrome! Any spots you see are oil/grease...

Art you make me look like Doug Turnbull. I DID remember to send you the old slide right?
David,
You're the MAN! You did return the old slide, I'm going to give it to my BIL, who has a neighbor who ceramic coats and customizes guns. I would like to find out if he has any coating, etc.... that would cover the pitted areas without weakening the slide. My neighbor is a welder and he said that any type of welding would compromise the strength of the slide due to the strengthening process that they put the slide through 86 years ago... |
did you go shoot it yet? Not a lot of stress on the slide. If he can micro weld he should be able to salvage it although it should cost some pretty $$ to do that and I don't know if it is worth all that when there are slides out there.
I want my 08 to look like this one now...
This was refinished by Colt in their Royal Blue. I wish I could find a front sight for mine as well. Haven't found one as a stand alone. Only with the slide and I'm not buying a slide just to get a sight. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300549856.jpg |
