Ab Machine recommendations

Time to loose the belly fat...

I've been walking most nights for over three years but my belly is still there. (not as big as it was)
I would like a machine that exercises more than just the ab area so...

I'm considering one of these. https://www.abcirclepro.com/Index.dtm

Has anybody used one of theses?

Any other recommendations?

I'm on a low fat low carb diet and I've lost about 21 ponds so far.

One of my concerns is that most your body weight is on your knees. If the knee pads are good then that shouldn't be a problem however like anything these things are made as cheap as possible.

This will probably get the fitness guru's upset but I feel that flat stomachs and six-pack abs are more genetic than working out?! In the 70s and 80s when I was cycling, running and doing a few other events, I used to do 300 situps in the morning and 300 at night and I never got those "rock hard abs" everyone dreams about. I did not have a belly as I only weighed 155 or so but nothing ever seemed to change?!

I'm 45 so I realize washboard abs are probably a thing of the past.

Just want to shift that belly fat

I used to use one of those "electro muscular devices"(TENS), but the going was slow.
Re-rigged the welder and got a six pack back in two days.

Seriously though, only low-impact cardio will get that(swimming, yoga, walking, etc.). There are a million rowing and skiing machines at the goodwill stores.

Kind of true. I have pictures of me as a little kid - not fat, or even chubby, but a belly!

Everyone has ab's it's just a matter of how much fat is covering them. It's going to depend on how badly you want them, but you don't need any machines to get them. As mentioned above it's diet, the rest is cardio.

To maintain where I'm at means a very strict diet, and 5 days a week of running five miles or more. I couple this with an aggressive weight routine to keep my stomach flat. I can get into some specifics but it was mentioned above to go to Menshealth, that's the place. They also have an excellent on-line trainer program that will give you the exercise routines and the meals.

The diet is a great start. Bully for you!

Low carb is more important than low fat - but that is just an opinion.

Eating well - veggies, meats and fruits, a lack of junk food and plenty of sleep is most important.

Otherwise, I would look to no machine to help you at all. Look into body weight exercises and things like free weights, kettle bells and dumb bells. Yoga is great, biking too, running has worked for me..

If you want to work the belly - look up "AbMat" - a great way to do sit ups, with extra back support.

I think this is true and am the flip side of this coin, ectomorph I think is the term for me, maybe endomorph for you.

If you want to be lean and have a six pack you have do do everything, adequate quality sleep, cardio to burn calories, lift weights, ab exercises, pilates or whatever for core strength and most importantly, good nutrition. It is easier and harder for various people based on genetics and habits.

I like people lifting weights, because it will help with bone density and muscle tone, with myriad benefits. I think exercising in the AM has many advantages as well

I'm going with those who have said it's mostly genetics. When I was young with no body fat to speak of, you could see ghosts of (sort of) squares there but never like you see in pictures. I also agree with those saying exercises that promote whole body strength and cardio health are the way to go. One of the best calorie burning exercises I've found is hiking uphill with weight on my back. I suppose you could get that with an inclined treadmill.

Scott R is correct.

Unless your abdominals were genetically deleted pre-birth, you can train them and make them grow. (Abdominal muscles aid core strength and stability)
95% of the people that train them and don't see them, have to much bodyfat covering them up. The amount of bodyfat and its location is more of less genetically determined.
Train them hard AND GET LEAN, you will get your six pack. Getting lean is the key.

Can't help you with the machines, I do crunches (and air-bike) mostly.

Well, I use to have a six pack, a lot of cycling, gravity boot sit-ups,
And just a freak on a bike..


then in my mid to late 20s, I was diagnosed with severe asthma and Docs started stuffing me full of steroids to build my lungs back up

Needless to say, it wasn't to many years after I hit 30 that the Six back was gone, and by 40, a Keg replaced it.. I still ride & walk and plan on getting another gravity board for verticle sit ups, and I also understand what others are saying & the abs will remain in hiding..

I used to have a six-pack too.



My girlfriend was out of town for three weeks and my fat belly disappeared and I lost about 4kg. What it was, is she likes making desserts and baking sugary things for me. So it's the dirty old (low GI) carb thing that gets me too.

I too could do with the bit of muscle to make the ab's, well, look like ab's. Pilates of good for stomach and posture, plus it takes the strain off your back having a good stomach. A bit gay though.

With the temperatures going on over there I thought you would be on the Greek salads?
