				Jet Powered 911

Enough with the V-8 conversions...Has anyone ever thought about putting a jet engine in a 911? Why does Jay Leno get to have all the fun with his jet powered vehicles!

There has to be some cheap surplus engines out there. This 90hp turbine would be a good candidate for an old 912: Garrett JFS100 Gas Turbine Engine There is something so cool about having a 911 with turbine sounds.

Guys- Trust me....while it is fun to think about turbine engines in street cars, the reality is that it is a very BAD idea! Turbines are finicky things, and while they have one moving part, they burn up or blow apart disastrously on a moments notice if you aren't watching them 100% of the time.

And that picture right above, with the red US 928 with the turbine engine labelled "Boeing"? That is total hogwash! Boeing builds airframes. They have never built an engine! That motor is probably an Allison 250 out of a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter! It runs at 130 decibels, making it about 10 times louder than a V8 powered 928 with NO mufflers at all! N! |

That Garrett makes 90bhp in 84lbs. Not too shabby.

914 was the second thing to come to mind. Hmmm, I know where one is with a blown engine.

Given the weight, power and gear reduction to a max 3300rpm on the second shaft, it'd be a blast in an old series rover. You'd just have to figure out a really good filter system to keep the engine from blowing up from dirt, gravel, mud spray... |

I like the bug car idea. I wonder if they make an adapter plate to put a turbine onto a 901 and cram it into a bug
