Trinitron finally bites the dust

It was my first really nice TV, Big Sony, 27". I guess I should not be too sad, aren't TV's cheap right now?

It had this really groovy surround sound thing, pair of rear firing speakers, total of six. Had it since June of 1994, got it for a couple hundred bucks from this crazy little hair dresser that I was dating at the time. She looked just like Bree Olson.

WTF is it with gymnasts and crazy?

I still have my first "good" TV. 27" Mitsubishi. Its lasted through three long term relationships, one broken engagement, four deceased pets, at least 7 moves.

My 32" Trinitron died 4 years ago and way too early. I've been without a T.V. since.

Keywords here:

Sony Trinitron, 1994, hair dresser girlfriend that looked like Bree Olsen...

Dude... Tvs are dirt cheap right now. You should have your pick of 32" lcds for under 300.

enzo1 12-15-2010 08:53 PM

They'll be even cheaper after the Super bowl , Bestbuy just missed their numbers because tv sales are down.... I like that "new" thin 1, but it's expensive...

I still have my 32inch Trinitron WEGA in the basement. It weighs about a zillion pounds, but still works perfectly.

slodave 12-15-2010 08:55 PM

^^ That's the problem. Mine weighs just as much and it needs to go down a flight of stairs to get it out of my place. That's why it's filling the hole in my entertainment center, keeping it from blowing away in a strong wind.

My Sony Trinitron 20 incher that I bought in 1986 is still running strong in the Master Bedroom. This is the fourth place I have had it...and as much as I would like to get a 40 incher LED for the Bedroom I just can't justify it with the Sony still runnin.

Now my 46 inch Samsung Rear Projection job which is 4 years old has these 5 verticle bars running up and down until the set warms up and I unplug and replug it..then it works fine.

proud owner of a 12" sony trinitron since about 1982...no sound anymore but still has a good picture!! Also own a 27 and 32" trinitrons but after buying a 55" Samsung 240hz, they're tough to watch.

My 32" Trintron Wega is living on in Mexico

I have my parent's first good tv. 27" Trinitron - says something like November 1994 on the back. For some unknown reason it's dead too. I went upstairs to catch a game on it, tried the remote and power button and nothing happened. Think it's a problem with the board with the buttons on it though... sometimes when you'd hit volume up or down it'd change the channel instead. I'll get around to fixing it sometime; it's mostly used for a Super NES and Genesis and it's the perfect vintage for those.

Still have my 27 inch trinitron- 15+ years old and weighs a ton. Fits nicely in a big cabinet that I want to keep, so no reason to upgrade. But it wouldn't hurt my feelings if it died so I could put a slightly larger LCD screen in there!

pete3799 12-16-2010 05:33 AM

Our trinitron was great .....right up till the picture would shrink down to a tiny little dot in the center of the screen. If you shut it off / on it would sometimes fix itself. Took it in twice to get repaired and no one could fix it. Alas, i finally gave up and it was retired.

enzo1 12-16-2010 06:21 PM

shoot it, Tobra and film it..... explosion!

Tobra 12-16-2010 06:55 PM

That is not too bad,

Say enzo, did that work when I tried to send the pic of the hot asian gal to you? If not, I will send you a link, if I can find it.

enzo1 12-16-2010 07:00 PM

no, it didn't, Tobra , I'll have another please! lol:)

Too funny. We still use our 20" Trinitron purchased at Federated in '86 or '87. It still works quite well, have had it in three master bedrooms, and my only complaint is that the remote is dying. I have a Sony universal but it wont work the "Sleep" function so I have to keep repairing the original!

pwd72s 12-17-2010 08:04 AM

Our Trintron still going strong. When it dies, I suppose we'll replace it with a flat screen somethin' or other...but a small one that will fit inside the same entertainment cabinet space the 27" does.

I'm just not a fan of those HUGE screens...not as visually oriented perhaps.

I'm also too lazy to want to take down & reassemble all my stereo stuff...;)
