Anyone here using a PDA

I know... why would you want a PDA when you can do it all with a smart phone.

Well... I don't have a smart phone... nor do I want to spend the $$$ to upgrade to one.

I would like a cheap PDA to store all my contact info that I can sync to my computer to keep all that data backed up.

I was a big fan of the Palm system however the last new one I bought would not sync reliably... I replace that with an older referb... that died after about a year... so not so hot on the Palm product anymore.

Anyone using a PDA they like?

Thanks

do they still make PDA devices? seriously? I had a nice Sony a few years ago and now they stopped supporting it so there is nothing i can do with it. You can get a new iPhone for $99.00 these days..

Drop this plan and just get a smart phone. Why in the world would you chose to have data on two separate devices?

And make big fat monthly payments for data...

Get an iPod Touch. Same thing as the iPhone minus the cell radio.

You can get 200mb data plans for $15 per month. The wifi is free.

+1 if you don't want a 'plan', get an iPod touch.

rattlsnak 12-18-2010 09:48 AM

Im using MobileMe, which is actually an additional $99.00 a year, but it automatically syncs all my contacts, over my phone and multiple computers. You can also set it up to do pictures, files, etc.

i.e. If I add a contact to my phone, it will populate on my computer(s) without hooking any cables up or performing a manual sync. Same thing the other way. I can type in a contact into my computer and 10 seconds later it is stored on my phone.

Looking at a Ipod touch... does it have contact info? When I look at it online all they talk about is the nifty games it will play.

Oh wait... I would have to buy a Mac to sync with it right?

Just got wife a SD new phones... big raging PITA.

No monthly charges with a PDA.

$15 a month X 12 = $180 a year.

I don't do internet on my phone... nor do I want to.

Thanks for the input.

No, you dont have to have a Mac. You can actually surf the net or send emails or texts through an iTouch for free as well while using WiFi. You dont have to have a data plan if your using WiFi.

emcon5 12-18-2010 09:50 AM

Or a used iphone. If you are on ATT you just put your existing SIM in it, and you have a PDA/Phone with no data plan.

You have to use WiFi for internet if needed, but that is not really that much of a hurdle any more. Free wifi is all over the damn place.

Yes it's got contacts and email. Of course, you can only check the email if you're around a wifi.

Apple - iPod touch - Voice Memos, Calendar, Folders, and more

Also, I wanted to point out that you could also buy a used iPhone and choose not to set up the phone part.

So it will sync with a PC?

Let me google that for you

Why get a PDA?

Once upon a time in the land of Oz Scotty had an antenna on the roof and got free TV... and had a phone that plugged into a wall that coast $12 a month... and when he left his house he did not have an electronic leash and he was free... then he got in his car (that was full of 35 cent a gallon gas) and turned on hes radio... that also was free.

I am starting to feel like in our all consuming pursuit of technology we are slowly being bled dry.

Sorry for the rant... but the point being I want something that does not involve yet another monthly payment... that is why a PDA.

Guilty.

herr_oberst 12-18-2010 10:53 AM

If you want one (or all) of these, send me a PM, and if you'll pay shipping they're yours.

These are all b/w screens, and I'm not sure where support from Visor ended.

All of 'em worked, last time I checked.
