This one looks Bad......

9dreizig 12-19-2010 08:28 PM

So if the guy was holding a garden nozzle would it have been a good shoot??

yep. What makes the situation worse is that the Seattle PD tried to suppress that video. (so says the local news)

BlueSkyJaunte 12-19-2010 09:54 PM

The whole posse sure showed up quick to back their "bro" up.

Too bad they don't show up so fast when the murder is being committed by anyone not in uniform.

I'm not gonna watch a vid that long if several posters are saying you can't see what happened, but... question: is there any LE training protocol/scenario that trains officers to shoot a perp in the thigh in a case like this (knife, not firearm)?

Only if they knew he wasn't deaf.

Nope, that is what a tazer is for. Deadly force is what a side arm is all about. That is only something that happens on TV.

That is just wonderful. I needed an example of my fears.

A person with a knife can be more dangerous than one with a gun, just for perspective. I am not defending the cop.

ODDJOB UNO 12-20-2010 07:13 AM

cop must have had an extra jolt of seattle expresso.

the cop will lie thru his teeth on this one to cover his azz. how i havent a clue unless he was hassling the lady which we didnt see.

audiman08 12-20-2010 08:46 AM

I don't think things will turn out well for this officer

MOMO3.2 12-20-2010 09:02 AM

It is hard to imagine that officer passed any type of psychological screening based on that encounter.

I don't know if the cause was panic, low inteligence, or if the officer is simply a monster. I do, however, know a person like that should have never been dispatched among the public with a loaded gun on his hip.

What a tradgedy!

Mike

Wouldn't be too hard to make a camera that keeps a cop centered in the frame.

If the officer was so worried about the subject, he should have approached him with his weapon drawn in order to broadcast the seriousness of the situation. Not sure how else you tell a deaf man to drop a knife without playing charades.

Makes me wonder why our TSA screeners aren't all packing? ...for our safety. "put down the knitting needles. . .PUT DOWN THE KNITTING NEEDLES" BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG "she didn't drop them when I told her to."

WolfeMacleod 12-20-2010 11:11 AM

Listen to the video very carefully.
After shooting, the lady can be heard asking "What did you do that for? He didn't do anything" - it's a little garbled, but you can make it out pretty easily.

Or maybe not have gotten as close as he did?

After all the officer approached the victim.

He could easily have kept/followed at a distance and observed while he called for backup.

He was in control the entire time.

Just think what would've happened if he had lost control :(? Wanna know the truly "unspoken" tragedy imo...I can virtually guarantee this wasn't the first time that LEO exhibited "I throw gas on a fire" tendencies. I applaud all the "good cops", you've got one TOUGH job...but this type of behavior is way to commonplace anymore. Serious question to you that proudly (and rightfully so I might add) serve...how does this get fixed?

You're thinking of the "Use of Force" continuum.

1. Physical Presence
2. Soft Hands
3. Mace or Pepper Spray
(A K-9 unit would fall here)
4. Hard Hands
5. Police Baton, etc.
6. Threat of Deadly Force
7. Deadly Force

This LEO skipped 2-6 and just opened fire in a matter of seconds.

This kind of crap just makes it tougher for the good ones.

island911 12-20-2010 02:49 PM

Yep.

Exactly. And, the cop retorted, to the woman (not "he charged me with a knife" but) "he didn't listen to me..." (paraphrasing)

As the LEO walks in front of his car, his right hand is in front of him at his belt buckle and it looks like he's already holding his gun. Is that what you guys are seeing?

Either way, what a tragedy.
