My old '74 CJ5. Sold it about 3 years ago. It would run circles around any of the newer IFS Jeeps.

I've always loved Jeeps since high school in the mid 70's. Some buds had them and it was a blast.
I was just looking at older Jeeps and pricing them. |

What just killed that JK in the ruts? The 4.0 liter TJ was spectacular.

Really looked like he got the ignition wet. Should have been able to drive right through that. We took our JK "swimming" in much deeper holes than that, drove right through.
I miss that Jeep. Comfortable and great off-road right out of the box. Just wish they'd left the 4.0 straight six in because that 3.7 mini-van v-6 is really marginal... angela ![]()

It isn't truly an IFS, still a straight axle, but I'd rather have the leafs over the coils. The front end geometry has gotten way too complicated. Jeeps were always "simple" by design until Mopar turned them into a grocery-getter. The only true Jeeps are Willys or AMC.

Funny, I've been eyeing a TJ for a while now, ever since I test drove for my father in law.

Here is an email I received from a friend who sells licensed Jeep products (edited for privacy):
"Our devoted customer base continues to grow and in fact we will be sold out of this year’s xxxxx in the next two weeks. We were due to renew our license this year. However, since Chrysler’s bankruptcy Jeep has new ‘leadership’ and a new approach- they want to upscale the brand and become ‘the new Land Rover.’ This really goes against what Jeep is all about. I was disgusted to learn that the new Wranglers come with power windows. Anyway, we were told we are ‘not relevant to Jeep and we do not generate enough in royalties’ this despite us always paying the guarantee amount that they dictated. They also informed us that we are not allowed to appeal their decision. So, even though we’ve helped their marketing department significantly in the past on numerous occasions, as well as the Chrysler Museum and written countless articles on Jeep and its history, I guess it truly is ‘what have you done for me lately.’ We are not the only ones getting the axe by the way. I was told Revell models was also terminated after 18 years. This just baffles me beyond belief. If you ask most any Jeep nut, they started their love affair when they were about seven years old by building styrene Jeeps. This is a horrible way to alienate future customers as far as I am concerned I am somewhat please to see our issues have gotten very public and customers have informed me that they have called Jeep and wrote to their CEO and many magazines about our plight. I think this ‘new strategy’ has somewhat backfired on them. This has generated 100% negative publicity and nothing positive. This in a time when they can’t afford anything negative as their horrible quality reputation and taxpayer bail out does not sit well with Americans. "

![]() I had a lifted YJ and it was nothing compared to the TJ off-road. The JK's are respectible as well but let down by the weak V6 engine. All this being said, there will always be room in my driveway for a clean CJ-7. For topless posing though, not off-roading. ![]()

In the past I've owned CJ5's and a CJ7 and they were brutes ! Very raw and tough as nails. The CJ7 I had was a 304 V8 with automatic and quadra trac. Thirsty beast but she would go off road like an animal. I ended up putting a fiberglass tub, windshield frame and front fenders on her due to rust. She performed even better after adding the glass bits because it was lighter. It was hugger orange in color I miss that Jeep.
