Trains around the Christmas tree

Anyone else running a train around their Christmas tree this year?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1293049436.jpg
My wife and daughter got ours out this year and with all this rain we've been having I've been having fun running them and taking on-board videos with my Canon ELPH.

Nope, but I have my trains from when I was a kid...hmmmm

Those are nice. I am going to surprise the kids on Christmas morning with a portion of the trains I had as a kid.

It was far more involved than I anticipated to get them running again . . . hopefully it will become a fun tradition.

We used to have a Lionel set around the tree when I was a kid. Loved it.

Maybe I should run out and get a G scale set. I have my 3 year old nephew coming in for X-mas. Could be fun!

Nice. Would love to do that... Can I use Thomas the Tank?

A train? We can't even have a tree on the ground with our 18 month old lab :D

A train at Christmas around the tree is always a tradition, but not for the last few years. I need to go up to the attic and get a few tracks and such, put it around the tree and let it go. Thanks for reminding me.

Nice LGB set.

We have run a Lionel around our tree for about 8 years. I try to add a new car or extraneous item every year.

On a side note, my dad still has his from when he was a kid.

My kids and I are setting the train up tomorrow night, I will definitely post some pictures.

Yes, it's LGB.
Many years ago my wife wanted a train around the tree. Since my folks had given away the Lionel set we had as kids I went shopping for a new one. Talked to a few sales guys and they asked what it was for. When I told them I just wanted to run it around the tree without any hassles they all said go LGB. Ended up spending twice what I had planned on, but in the end, it was worth it. Today is the first time I've really 'played' with them. Made a video with my little camera and it's just like being ON the train. How cool is that?

I see you're from my home town of Morristown, NJ.
These have been sitting in a closet for at least 3-4 years and didn't have any problems coming out of the boxes and running as they should.
Hope your kids enjoy the train.

Very cool. Nice to "meet" you. I've been here ~7 years. My wife has been here longer than that. We like it here a lot.

The trains have been packed away for ~25 years or so! With some scrubbing, oiling and fiddling, they are coming back to life.

yep! do it every year! im using an HO set for space reasons though..

Oh my. I can only imagine how Lola would react to a train. This needs to be filmed.

Have had a Lionel Polar Express set for years. Top quality.

Buckterrier 12-22-2010 06:24 PM

Very cool Scott, had one when I was a kid. Can you post the video here??!!

fastfredracing 12-22-2010 06:27 PM

Always had a train around the tree as a kid, and I am trying to keep up the tradition for my son. I bought a small LGB set last X mas, and will add a piece or two every X mas from here out. He loves it.

I wish I could post it here. For some reason posting videos on the internet has eluded me so far. I may work on that tomorrow unless it stops raining.

My Dad's cool obsession!

Started when we were kids (40 years ago, then got reactivated in a big way a number of years ago), now he has regular showings for friends and family. Every year there's some really neat updates!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1293319477.jpg
