I think I broke one of the Good Ol' boy rules...

Yep, I bought me a bottle of scotch for the holidays. The first and last time I remember having tasted scotch was back on Diego Garcia en route to the first "Sand Box"... So I poured me a little on the rocks, kicked back and took a sip... YOWZA!!! I thought I had just poured JP5 or rocket fuel down my throat!!! After thinking about the possibilities for a few seconds I decided that I would mix said scotch with a little Mountain Dew... I was surprised, the concoction tasted exactly like Southern Comfort on the rocks... I will leave my man card at the door lol...

Just a little tip Bill, if you paid more than $15 dollars for the bottle under no circumstances reveal the brand. You're just setting yourself up for more ridicule.

Nope it was a small flask type bottle, the first scotch I ever had was Cutty Sark... I would have gotten Cutty Sark but they didn't have it in the small "coat pocket size" bottle. I am not a scotch drinker, but from what I remembered, it had a little different flavor to it than American or Canadian whiskey... I was just in the mood for something different... the only scotch in the small bottles that the small liquor store that I went to had was a brand called Clan Macgregor... This was like trying to drink Listerine straight.. And it didn't seem as aromatic and flavorful as the Cutty Sark that I had tried back in my youth... I think I will stick to my Vodka and Bourbon in the future lol... btw, yeah I know what you mean lol, and trust me I tried, the first attempt was room temp, no ice, just like JR Ewing would of had it...

Scotch and SOFA

If your scotch is older than your woman, you're in the clear. But Clan Macgregor, probably not.

Eh. I've never liked scotch, or any whiskey for that matter.. Even the "smooth" stuff tastes like jet fuel to me.

Which is strange, because I love gin, but only with some Sweppes tonic and a twist of lime. Just something refreshing about that drink.

If I want to sip something, give me a cognac, a port wine, or some absinthe. (Sam Adams Utopias is also good.)

As long as you don't ever drink it that way outside of the trailer park you'll be ok....
BTW learning to like scotch was my senior project in college.. Rusty Nails are a good after dinner drink too (Scotch and Drambuie)

I'd prefer an Ashton (an Arturo Fuente brand) with Tanqueray and tonic. The heavy cigar taste with the clean gin is quite exquisite.

(I used to be a Bombay fan, but I've found that I like the taste of Tanqueray much better and I can drink much more sans hangover.)

Scotch, an acquired taste.

Chris, give Hendrick's a try. Forget the lime....either a slice of cucumber or nothing. I bet you'll like it. I used to be a tanq/bombay guy

legion 12-25-2010 06:57 PM

Mike, I will give it a try. It may be a few months, but it will happen. I trust your opinions. I did buy a Sub-2000 after reading your opinions after all...

Scotch is made by men who wear skirts.

Drink Bourbon.
